There's an article about this from moneysupermarket in www.mumsnet.com/family-money/insurance-costs-for-teenage-drivers. One thing it doesn't cover is insuring your child to learn to drive.

Looked at these options but found that ikube was much more competitive - all other companies raised the premiums significantly after the kids passed thier test - with ikube the premiums stayed the same. Best deal I could find.

IME some of the more 'staid' insurance companies quoted lower for young people
i.e. son has had
AA
Prudential
and Aviva

all quoting at lower than 'young driver' insurers
