Can anyone give me some pointers on market research?

I am relocating back to Scotland and am going to start a new career (don't know what yet).
Are there web sites that I can research demographics etc for a certain area?

There was a post on here a while back wher one could be defined by postcode-"Daily mail readig,un educated,middle class etc" Buggered if I can remember what ti was though..sorry,maybe do a search in chat?
