You can have a look at www.uswitch.com, but bear in mind that gas and electricity rises have affected all suppliers.

cece · 07/03/2006 16:54

ditto to using uswitch. they saved us loads last time we switched.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:54

and uswitch as recently been criticised (along with another price comparison site) for not making it clear to users that it gets a commission (like an 'independent financial adviser) for referals from them

amynnixmum · 07/03/2006 16:56

Try moneysavingexpert.com

Mercy · 07/03/2006 16:58

It also partly depends where you live. Different areas are charged different tariffs

clerkKent · 07/03/2006 17:06

I tried one of those online sites, and they came up with Atlantic for us (gas and electric).

MaryBS · 08/03/2006 18:53

Just because they get a commission, doesn't mean they are bad. I would try a number of sites. I used uswitch last time, but switchwithwhich.co.uk gave more choices.
I don't have gas, and it said British Gas were by far the cheapest for us!

calvemjoe · 08/03/2006 19:44

Utility discount warehouse are the cheapest. You can join online if you google it. You won't find them on uswitch or companies like that cause they have to pay the website a fee every time they are suggested and they won't do that cause it increases costs. Also, if you've never heard of them it's cause they use word of mouth for advertising to save on overheads. They do gas, electricity, home and mobile phones, broadband and freephone numbers and they are great. Promise to save you £400 a year or something on your utillity bills. I've found them fantastic (and I think they should be paying me for this!!!)

JanH · 08/03/2006 19:47

npower comes out as cheaper for a lot of people who use comparison sites, lars...

Moneysaving martin says don't switch now, wait until all the price rises have been announced and implemented.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 08/03/2006 19:51

We've just had a huge gas bill (British Gas) and switchwithwhich recommended Seeboard who I've never heard of. But the site did say that most companies will be raising their prices over the next couple of weeks so it's worth waiting.

British Gas off a Winter Fuel Rebate for families who claim DLA/Carers. Does anyone know if other companies off it?

lars · 08/03/2006 20:04

Janh - that's who I with npower. I have used 4,000 units withinn 3 months - this is normally a years supply for me, could it be our new electric fire that heats up conservatory? We have central heating rest of house. larsxx

That's what I mean lars, another supplier might charge you even more than npower!

Is your electric heater on a thermostat so it comes on whenever it's cold? If so it could have been using 20 or 30 kw a day for the last couple of months (ie 600 - 900 per month).

lars · 08/03/2006 20:15

No, it's just a little heater that's looks like a log stove if that make sense. It just a normal heater. Npower have said to monitor meter for a week as it seems excessive. larsxx

We are with Scottish Power / Manweb and have just capped our prices until Oct 2007 at the price it was before the recent increases - it's going to cost us an extra £4 a month to do it for both gas and elec, but we're hoping it's well worth it!

kiskidee · 09/03/2006 15:33

seeboard is based in kent. it is an old company existing long before deregulation in the 90's. It was bought out by EDF (Electricite De France) which also owns London Electricity and SWEB.
