Is there a role for a bridesmaid at a registry office wedding?

My brother's marrying at the registry office and wants my dd(7) to be bridesmaid. She says she'd rather not read a poem or say anything but she's very excited at the prospect of being a bridesmaid.

So what makes her a bridesmaid other than an ordinary guest at this wedding?

Any experience anyone?

a pretty dress...
IME, that's the only role for young bridesmaids anywhere!

The DRESS!

A confection in ivory tulle. With satin shoes.

Does anything else matter?

Orlando · 07/03/2006 15:57

Oh, and flowers.

pink roses which will subsequently gather dust in her bedroom until she leaves home.

And the knowledge that she was thought special enough by her uncle to be made into a princess for a day Smile

apart from the dress, could she also scatter some rose petals? My dds did this at my brother's civil wedding as he and his wife left the building. And of course they were very decorative in all the photos. :)

Hi sm, My sister was bridesmaid at my registry office wedding, the only role for her really was to act as my witness but you have to be 18 to do that which she was.

Maybe it varys between registry offices but although we were allowed to change the words of the ceromny about we weren't able to read poems or anything.

My daughter was 4 when i married and she was also bridesmaid and she was happy just to be able to wear a dress and have a little bouquet

maybe its just a way of your brother wanting to do something kind for your dd. maybe he knows how excited she will be about it

another job of the bridesmaid is to hold the brides flowers while the rings are exchanged. a very responsible job

That's a good point. I guess I ought to be ordering flowers for bride and bridesmaid.

Don't know about registry offices, but I was a bridesmaid at my Aunty & Uncle's church wedding when I was three or four and I remember it to this day as feeling very important and like a princess. Over thirty years on the dress still hangs in my wardrobe - I'll never part with it (despite it being somewhat dated). I can remember little else about being that age, so it must have been a super special event in my mind. I'm sure she'll have a splendid day.

I was bridesmaid to one of my uncles when I was 8 or so. He is still me favourite uncle (out of the 10!)
