I don't know how some people can sleep at nights!

I've just had a phone call, which I need to add is the fourth one in two months, saying that I can have free windows and doors if I take part in a magazine. Every other time I told the operator what I thought and hung up but tonight I was ready for a fight. So this charming young man phoned me back and started his speech. By the time I'd finished with him he was crawling off the phone.

I told the rotten sod that I didn't know how he could sleep scamming people out of money and how they could get away with such a blatent marketing scam that was never going to let anyone have anything for free. After eleven minutes where I found out that he was thirty one, single and with no respective other it wasn't surprising to learn this. He asked what I did and I said I was a stay at home mom. I am so angry! He said that stay at home mums were kept puppies who watched daytime TV and shopped 24-7 for Guchi while their kids were left to rot infront of cbeebies. His name was Philip and he was a real charmer until his misogynistic attitude came through. So beware of this scam because it is a scam and I'm sure than no mumsnetter would ever fall for it.

Does no one else think that these calls are getting worse? I get the FREE holiday ones quite regular and the operator gets screamed at.

Does anyone know of anything I can do to stop these calls because they always raise my blood pressure!

I still can't believe what a complete tos$£&r this git was. Had to be a man!

Subscribe to the Telephone Preference Service - it is then illegal for companies to cold call

milge · 06/03/2006 18:56

register for the telephone preference service www.tps.co.uk which should reduce and ultimatly stop the calls.

Flip · 06/03/2006 18:57

On way to check out tps.

It really works. My calls stopped almost immediately. If anyone calls, just tell them that you are with TPS, and they will go away!

Freckle · 06/03/2006 19:11

No don't do that. Find out which company they are from and as much information as possible. Then report them to TPS as they are breaking the law.

fastasleep · 06/03/2006 19:16

Due to the tps legitimate call centres are now closing down, opening a nice big gap for illegal scam cold calling from offshore bases....

I feel sorry for most cold callers, it's a tough job!

I didn't feel sorry for him. He was having the time of his life and told me that the next call he'd make would land a twenty grand sale on some poor old idiot. He said it broke up his day to argue with bored housewives and still tried to get me to give out my address so he could send someone round to do a quote. No hassle my arse!

Otherwise I would complain via email or by phone

If you really want to stop cold callers, change your phone number, go ex-directory and never ever give your phone no out to anyone (if you're filling in a form on the net and phone no is compulsory just type in 00000 000000) other than people you know. TPS is great but only if the company is based in this country.

That was very interesting Mercy. Thanks for that. I will not be using weatherseal even if they are Free Grin
