How long does a home buyers survey take - anyone?

That's it basically. How fast can it be done does anyone know? I mean from comissioning to delivering? TIA

Are you talking about the normal survey that morgage companies normally arrange.

I'll let you know - our buyer commissioned hers about 10 days ago, it was done about 5 days ago and we don't have the results back yet.

We just a mortgage val which is similar - done about 3 days after it was commissioned and results the next day.

So it can vary.

Our morgage survey will be done this week (morgage applied for today) and we will have our full morgage offer next week if everything is OK and our morgage advisor told us that he may find out the results the same day.

When we sold our flat years ago and our house a few months ago the actual survery itself took about 15 minutes!(we always had the full strucural one done though)

Home buyers survery is the 1st level of survey so they really just do the the most basic checks. The results were normally back within a week or so but I suppose it depends on how busy the surveyor is too.

Ladd T did it really take 15 mins the surveyor on our sale was here more than 4 hours!!!

Thanks, there was a full structural survey done by the previous buyers who pulled out so we don't need one done but we do need a homebuyers one just to cover us as the findings of the previous survey are only gauranteed for the previous buyers iyswim. We are going to give the copy of the full structural survey to the surveyor whose doing the homebuyers survey and ask him to look at the one or two things that came up on that. However I am waiting for the surveyor to call us back to arrange an appointment and I was wondering how long it may take but then I suppose it's variable!

yes, the home buyers one for our flat and house was done in a flash. I eevn questioned it with the bloke and he said they are only really checking it's not about to fall down! I couldn't believe that these people were spending 116,000 on our flat(and then 215,000 on our house) but were to tight to get a full survery

The ones we've paid for (the full structural) always takes a few hours.

I'm not too bothered about getting a full structural survey because my dad and brother are architects and have looked at the survey the previous buyers had done and don't think there is anything too bad on it and the damp that did show up has been treated and is garunteed, the chimney has been repointed too. Believe me they wouldn't allow us to take that risk for the sake of a few hundred quid. The homebuyers survey is just so that we have some comeback if the house falls down or develops huge cracks or whatever .
