Can I recover pictures on a SD camera disk online for free?

I have photos on a SD disk for my sony digital camera which I can see when the disk is in my camera, but my computer tells me the disk is empty. I don't have the lead to attach the camera directly to my laptop. I have found a few recovery software options online but they seem to recover and display the pics but then I have to pay to actually save them. Does anyone know of a completely free version please?

it might be worthwhile to buy a new cable for your camera. You will probably find one on Fleabay for a couple of pounds. Try to get a genuine Sony one, not a copy.

or an external usb card reader, again a couple of quid on ebay :)

Have you installed / reinstalled the sony software? I know that I have a sony camera and the folders on the SD Card look empty when I try and browse to them directly, but if I plug the card into the PC that I've installed the software on, then it automatically finds the photos?
