Please please please would you check out the \link{http://www.livelifethengivelife.co.uk/index.php\Live Life And Give Life} campaign.. by clicking on the link and considering buying a tshirt. This is to raise awareness of and to help combat the chronic shortage of organ donors as it is essential that more people start thinking and talking about the issue. Only 22% of the population have currently signed the National Organ Donor Register, even though when questioned the majority of the population support the idea. Equally important is telling our next of kin of our wishes to be organ donors after our death as the final decision will be theirs. At present, over 40% of next of kin refuse consent for their loved ones organs to be donated.

The tshirts are fab! One says 'I'd give you one!' Grin on the front.. and the other style says 'Live life and give life' on the front with info and statistics on the back. The girl on the left modelling the tshirts is my friend Emily (wh oyou may recongnise from her many tv appearances in her capacity as ambassador for the CF trust, on GMTV, Ricahrd & Judy etc). She has CF and in Feb 2005 was given a year to live without a lung transplant. So she is currently living on borrowed time. :(

As some of you will know, my 13 y/old DS also has CF.

This campaign isn't just about CF though.. it's about all the people currently waiting for organ transplants, like Misdee's DH Peter who is waiting for a heart (hope you don't mind me mentioning you in the this thread Misdee..)

Please consider buying a thsirt! They come in mens and womens styles and in 4 sizes.

Thanks

SJ xx

Why is there an increasing shortage of donor organs?

The number of organs available for transplant has been falling over recent years. At the same time the number of people needing a transplant is expected to rise steeply over the next decade.
Very few people die in the circumstances required for being able to donate their organs and the numbers are falling because of welcome improvements in road safety and advances in medical treatment. Another major reason for the shortage of organs is that too few people think about donation or discuss it with their family. A recent survey showed that more than 50 per cent hadn't discussed donating their organs or made sure that their families knew their wishes.
