I want to swap bedrooms with my sons because their room is very small and now im on my own I dont need as much space.Ive decided they can have new beds as they are at the age where DS2 6 wants to sleep on the top bunk where DS1 8 sleeps. My problem is how to decorate the new room ready to swap everything over!DS1 likes pokemon,DS2 loves actionman and has a pack of stickarounds ready to put somewhere.DS2 said blue and minty green,DS1 said red! help please!!!

Is the room big enough to do a curtain divide to allow them both their own space and design? Plus you can get these bed units which have the bed up high and a desk/drawers etc underneath.

tortoise · 04/03/2006 22:57

No not really. Will be getting beds with draws.have given them a choice of 3 so can have different to each other if they want.Very low budget so couldnt go for the very high ones with desk etc under.

Could you do the walls pretty nuetral but give them the appropriate bed linen for their tastes and perhaps decorate chest of drwers each with stickers or transfers of their favourite characters?

WestCountryLass · 04/03/2006 23:02

I would probably be inclined to paint the room a neutral colour (magnolia/hint of a tint white or something) and then give them Action Man/Pokemon duvet sets and bedsite lights and wotnot.

If the beds can be put in a position where you can have a curtain splitting the room farely equally then that would be good. If you are good at sewing you could have one side one colour (mint green) and the other side the other colour (red), or you could just have a neutral colour.

Ikea do some reasonably priced beds like Chicagomum mentioned. I think they are pretty good for giving personal space. You can also get bed canopies:

www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=7&productId=53009&langId=-20&parentCats=15567*16180

(not sure about that actual bed)

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6639987.htm

Ikea had some high sleeper/loft beds with different options for compatible furniture to fit underneath depending on what you need (desk/chest of drawers/wardrobes etc).

HTH, good luck!

Sorry, took me a while to find links and in the meantime you said not what you ar elooking for.

If you have one bunk bed already, could you get new bed for one now and get the other one when you can afford it?

SecondhandRose · 04/03/2006 23:20

I can recommend the Argos bunks, we've had two sets both excellent, not rickety or flimsy.

Ikea is the place for cheap, bright accessories. Have you got a dado? I'd paint below in bright colours and above in white.

tortoise · 04/03/2006 23:22

I am hoping to get beds off one of my catalogues. Then only have to sort paint!Could probably work something with swapping top bunk once a month but i cant take them apart and move them then put back together on my own!Im hoping i can manage flat pack ones!Grin

I can't find Pokemon sickarounds but could you print off onto card/laminate, cut off and glue piccies onto things?

WestCountryLass · 04/03/2006 23:25

You might be able to get them on interst free from Argos? Or on Ikea card?

(Not meant to be encouraging debt though Blush)

SecondhandRose · 04/03/2006 23:25

I think you could get stick on dados from Homebase but I've never put one up so don't know, sorry. What about a football team, do they agree on one of those?

tortoise · 04/03/2006 23:27

OOOh debt! I have plenty of that but am trying to clear it slowly!Thats a good idea for piccies.Doubt argos would give me card on income supp.

Not hugely into football. Both seem to go with team friends like!

WestCountryLass · 04/03/2006 23:30

Oh, and Dados can be a bugger if your walls aren't staight, even if you use a spirit level you can find that they don't level up easily.

tortoise · 04/03/2006 23:33

Can almost be sure they are not straight! its south somerset homes property!!!Grin

Yeah, a good couple of hours, just was interested as you mentioned South Somerset homes and wondered if we were "neighbours" so to speak. No matter, hope you get your boys room sorted.

You had me thining about rejigging my own house now :o

tortoise · 05/03/2006 14:26

Westcontrylass-thanks for link to argos yesterday.Have found out they do that high bed without draws and wardrobe for £199 so that 1's a good possibility. Now need to sort colours and space saving bits.
