I have just realised that I am waking up every day and my lower back hurts - I think this must mean its time to get a new mattress .... Ours is now around 8 years old

I really dont know where to start or look.

I would love some recommendations for mattresses; what has worked for you; what is good for a couple to sleep on......

Thanks

I was put off having a memory foam mattress because I'd heard they can make you feel hot.

DSis got one and she was waking up drenched with sweat - in fact it was so bad she thought it was the menopause. She took to sleeping in the spare room.

Mind you, I've seen lots of posters recommending them on here. And a sales assistant in John Lewis told me that Tempur mattresses were not so problematic - though eye-wateringly expensive.

Anyway, it's something to ask about if you're considering memory foam.

I got a Relyon pocket-sprung though it's slightly too firm for me - a compromise due to DH preferring to sleep on concrete! Will think about one of those mattresses when you can have each half sprung to a different tension next time.

Oh no ... Hot don't think I can do that .... I am per menopausal and feeling the odd sweats ... Back to the drawing board! I looked at those tempura ones but they are so expensive.

Was worried about the hot rumours too, but to be honest I was just desperate to get something a bit better for my back. Do have a very lightweight duvet but haven't noticed the heat more with the memory foam than my old sprung mattress.

TBH I think I would put up with the heat and get air conditioning The memory foam has made such a massive improvement to my back!! I don't wake up sore and with massive back ache. The only problem it that now I take a lot of persuasion to go anywhere that involves staying the night because I find the beds so Damnably uncomfortable!!! Grin
