We have athe high/low chair from toys r us which is currently on its lowest setting because DS can get out of it even if he is strapped in. Paranoid that he will take a tumble and wondering if anyone had any suggestions, have drawn a blank and i am loathe to get another high chair at this stage as he will be out of it soon if we follow DS1(he was in a booster type seat from about 18 months)

You could get a Tripp Trapp - they last ages as they turn into a proper chair after they've been highchairs. Try him in one first though - he sounds like a Houdini!

Feistybird · 23/02/2006 12:39

extra reins on?

failing that gaffa tape....

Mazzystar · 23/02/2006 12:41

little table and chair of his own? get lots of use out of that later.
make mealtimes v snappy and don't leave his side?
just stick him in the booster seat?

am impressed at his houdini skills.

lizardqueen · 23/02/2006 12:41

DS3 did this and all we could come up with was never to leave him alone in the high-chair - one of us made sure we were within arms' reach at all times. He's been sitting at the table with the others for a couple of months now - he's 18 months.

Mazzystar · 23/02/2006 12:42

we have a tripptrapp and its great. but not inescapable for the truly determined.

RTKangaMummy · 23/02/2006 12:42

How is he getting out of the reins??????

Kelly1978 · 23/02/2006 12:43

He sounds like my dts! They are houdinis too. They can climb out, and have both fallen out ontot he floor. Nothing works for them, but we have used trip trapps when out and they can't climb out of those. Kiddicare do a cheap version, but like you I am also loath to get another now. I'm hoping once they get a bit bigger they wont be able to turn round in it!

Kelly1978 · 23/02/2006 12:44

rtkm, mine get out by twisting their arms out first then turning round and wriggling up, then pushing the harness off. A determined baby can get out of nearly anything, their limbs are so flexible. Mine keep escaping from their car seats too, just their arms tho.

RTKangaMummy · 23/02/2006 12:51

wow

MerlinsBeard · 23/02/2006 17:27

sorry i got engrossed in flames labour thread and then had to go out! had forgotten about this!

There any straps that go over the shoulders its just a lap strap and nowhere to tie extra reins to, believe me i have tried!!

we generally don't leave his side but sometimes DS1 runs off(no point with any kind of rein as he can undo THEM ALL!!) and i have to run get him b4 he gets into mischief(playing in the loo jumping in the bath learniing how to undo the stair gate) i don't want that few seconds to mean disaster.

Thank you for help tho. space is an issue or we would go down the sep chair and table route but hes a little young for that anyway. will have a look at triptrapp chairs, or cheaper versions

Thank you for replies

get a set of there or similar. They come with anchor straps ro attach to teh high chair.

MerlinsBeard · 23/02/2006 17:47

iota i have those but can't attach them to highchair as there are no extra loops for me to attach them too. tried tying then to various parts of the chair but he gets tangled.

Think Gaffer tape is looking like the most likely option!!

Thanks tho iota, think i am just gonna have to grin and bear it for a short while and hope that its a phase

LIZS · 23/02/2006 17:54

We had a similar Clippasafe harness (like the walking rein set below that one) which had loops rather than clips to anchor it, so you could thread the straps through themselves iyswim and fix around any bars near the seat of the highchair.

Hulababy · 23/02/2006 17:55

I'd be tempted to take the tray off and use it at the table instead if possible - and teach him how to get ina nd out safely. And don't leave him!

iota · 23/02/2006 17:57

is it this one - says it had d rings to attach separate harness - if it has d rings you should be able to loop the anchor straps through them and clip the harness to the anchor straps

iota · 23/02/2006 17:57

same thought as LIZS

MerlinsBeard · 23/02/2006 18:22

yes is that one but we had it with DS1 and there are no rings now...maybe came off? DP managed to use the clippasafe reins and tightened themn really tight (where the longer strap is that u would hold in ur hand if they were walking) and he stayed put. Was either that or teh fact that DP was actually feeding hiM!!!!

hulababy, I tried using mine and the table - dt1 climbed on the table.
