WWW - I deal mainly with sole traders and on the whole they are ok, some actually write me a cheque and drop it off the day they get my invoice (I like those ones) just one in particular that gets up my nose owes me for a couple of months work now (ko only about £500ish but that's an awful lot to us as we are poor!) he's always out and about, I leave message, emails, letter etc am always told that he's not been back to the office to sign the cheques etc which I can kind of believe, but it doesn't get the cash in my bank account does it? Am now sitting on his work till I get dosh in my hand.

I'm going to start horribly early when they're at school, I glumly suspect.

I will also share with you the acute wobbly I threw at a magazine last week which claimed the reason I was owed from NOVEMBER was 'because you haven't sent your green form back'. What form? The form for VAT? I don't do VAT, dammit, never got sodding form, can I have my money, the money YOU OWE ME, now, please???

Pfer · 22/02/2006 13:19

MI glad it's not just me then..

lol at centre of gravity, I nearly posted 'and she's got big bosoms' but didn't quite dare but you've done it for me!

krabbiepatty · 22/02/2006 13:22

Ah but she is ignoring these remarks in a dignified kindof way and returning thread to its original path...

Wordsmith · 22/02/2006 13:24

I love those 'The cheque's in the post' conversations.

The most I have ever been 'taken' for is £1600 a few years back - it hurt a lot as it would have paid my tax bill. It was just before Christmas too. Luckily (or unluckily) I got another rush job that covered it but meant working a lot of the Christmas so-called break.

My dodgiest client I have ever dealt with is a barrister who is on the approved list of Tory Party candidates!! She was evil and ripped me off good and proper. Me being too trusting, accepting assurances that weren't in writing etc. I do hope she gets selected for a safe seat, I'll be onto the local paper in a flash.

I hate being self employed because I never feel like I can have time off for being ill and I hate working from home.

motherinferior · 22/02/2006 13:27

My dignity is intact, as my norks are now upholstered to the point where they don't wobble when I stamp

geekgrrl · 22/02/2006 13:29

I do actually like being self-employed most of the time.
What I don't relish is that I've been completely snowed under with work this week - have registered with a new agency and told them that it's half-term, yet they keep sending me document after bloddy document, it's felt like a full-time job this week....
Don't feel that I can say no yet with them.

Pfer · 22/02/2006 13:30

MI, thought my size 4's were small...

Glad to hear your lack of wobble. Myself being a recent victim of an illfitting bra and bapslap.

Geekgirl - know what you mean. If you turn it down maybe they won't send you anymore when you actually have the time to do it and really need the money. Dig deep girl, we're half way through the week!

yes, I've been accepting weird stuff that isn't even remotely my field and will take me forever like some kind of specialised radio transmitter manual(WTF?!). sigh

Mirage · 22/02/2006 16:15

I like being self employed most of the time, but the foul weather we are having this week has put me back at least 2 days.I either pray it stays fine & try to fit it all in later in the week (childcare permitting),or write it off as a bad week & don't get paid.

laundrylover · 22/02/2006 16:32

I like being self employed but this week can't be bothered to work and am MNing ALL day! I tell you I'll be labouring in the pool with my laptop desperately trying to finish contracts!!
Also keep peeking at my Mat Allownace form which is a nightmare- why can't the IR just look at how much you earn in a year and agree that £2,600 is nowhere near 6 months earning and just give you a cheque????
