At what age can a child get through the day without crying?

My dd1 is 2.9 and (not surprisingly) has several episodes of tears/tantrums each day.

I'm just curious to know at what age children can get through an entire day without any tears.

sometimes I feel like I've still not reached that point

Blandmum · 16/02/2006 21:09

I don't think that dd has done a week yet and she is 9. Not sure if she has done half a week if I'm being honest

Hulababy · 16/02/2006 21:11

DD is nearly 4 and gets through some days, but not regularly all, without tears.

bubblerock · 16/02/2006 21:12

DS is 7 and still cries most days - he's very 'emotional'.

jamiesam · 16/02/2006 21:13

Phew, this makes me feel so much better. Am ashamed to say that I think Ds1 is a cry baby - he's 4.5 and must have at least one cry pretty much every day. Feel really sad because my brother used to call me a cry baby and it used to make me so mad - they were real tears.

Dottydot · 16/02/2006 21:20

ds1 is just 4 and probably doesn't cry roughly every other day - if we're lucky. ds2 is nearly 2 and I can't imagine a day without tears - and he's the happiest child in the world but when he's tired he just disolves!

mummytosteven · 16/02/2006 21:21

oh gosh, quite a few years of crying for me ahead then!

motherinferior · 16/02/2006 21:22

DD1 has just turned five and is inordinately lachrymose.

dd2 is utterly wet and a weed

we call it 'getting in a muckle' and she does it about 5 times a day (she is 3.4)

Hattie05 · 16/02/2006 21:28

Either i have tuned it out so well i don't remember crying episodes, or i'm right in thinking that dd who is three doesn't really cry?? is she abnormal? Of course she cries if she falls over and hurts herself, but i don't recall her crying at other times. If i tell her off she just either sulks or acts mischieviously.

I shall pay attention now and see if she does have other crying episodes that i don't notice

Ds1 is 7 and rarely cries anymore (Hasn't for a few years actually), although when he does it's usually a biggie and very emotional.

Dd can find sonething to cry about most days - she is 5.5.

Ds2 is 2 and flares up as soon as things aren't going his way.

bubblerock · 16/02/2006 21:37

DS is so funny though, he's a real drama queen and just flounces about, cries at the drop of a hat - he is a total wuss, I love that he has a sensitive side but he could do with toughening up a bit!

Aero · 16/02/2006 21:43

I worry that ds1 doesn't show his emotions - to get him to tell you what's bothering him when it's clear something is wrong is like extracting blood from a stone. He keeps a lot in.

beetlejuice73 · 16/02/2006 21:49

What a great question.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 16/02/2006 21:56

I rarely get through a day myself with out crying! (I cry at TV, books, adverts, songs on the radio ) only lately though! Am hoping it goes away!

WigWamBam · 16/02/2006 21:58

Dd is 4.75 and cries at least once a day - half the time even she doesn't know what it's all about.

GDG · 16/02/2006 21:58

Ds2 is 3.3 - he cries every day
Ds1 is 4.11 - he certainly doesn't cry every day - nothing like it.
