Having a clear out - what shall I do with them?? They've been sat in a box in the garage for 6 yrs now - moving so going through it all.

Seems wrong to throw them away but won't I just be storing them for the next 20 odd years?

Mine are in the loft too. I know it's ridiculous but I just can't bear to part with them.

kiskidee · 16/02/2006 12:56

vinyl is coming back into vogue among music enthusiasts. i'd think if you sell them on in bulk to music shops you'd get a pittance for them. i would think that sought after albums could be worth something tho. maybe do a bit of research on ebay?

GDG · 16/02/2006 12:57

Hmmm - I feel like being ruthless adn chucking them out. I had awful taste and most of it is utter crap!

kiskidee · 16/02/2006 13:02

example of what I mean.
did u even pay a fiver for this in '91?

GDG · 16/02/2006 13:03

Yes but The PRodigy are cool - my records are not cool!

BonyM · 16/02/2006 13:03

Yes, check them. I recently found out that a Madonna picture disc that I have is worth £40! I'm going to keep it for my old age .

kiskidee · 16/02/2006 13:06

sorry can't help you there GDG. Maybe practice to spin plates on a pole with them?

BonyM, do you have anything by BonyM?

jabberwocky · 16/02/2006 13:07

Sell them on ebay. Dh has quite a collection and I add to it from time to time.

wannaBe1974 · 16/02/2006 13:42

My dad has some old vinal, including some beatles records. Checked on ebay and the beatles ones were going for about £400! Alternatively, records make great plant pots. Just put them in warm water and they become very flexible - easy to mold into a plant for that geranium that's outgrown it's pot, lol!

Kayleigh · 16/02/2006 19:50

intergalacticwalrus who are you ?!!!!

SleepyJess · 16/02/2006 19:57

Yes.. sell them on Ebay. This seems to be my DH's main goal in life; to buy and sell vinyl on Ebay. Sigh.

On a positive (mercenary) note, we made £260 recently selling a selection of collectible bits and bobs of vinyl that DH had duplicates of in his collection! Helped the overdraft that month!

intergalacticwalrus · 17/02/2006 08:15

Kayleigh, Moozoboozo. Mini IQ lady!

mszebra · 17/02/2006 08:40

Charity shop might want them.

Earlybird · 17/02/2006 08:43

Just a thought - do you have any way of checking to see if they still play properly? After too long in the loft, some of mine had warped - presumably due to prolonged exposure to extreme hot/cold temps.

Mercy · 17/02/2006 09:23

GDG, I'm sure I've seen some gadget that converts vinyl into digital - CD or MP3.

bettys · 17/02/2006 09:30

I use a programme called Toast to record the vinyl onto the computer & then CD, takes ages though. Then I can bin/ebay/boot sale the records. Some of mine are warped too, so rather like the idea of plant pots!

Kayleigh · 17/02/2006 09:32

aaahhhh, got it ! Where on earth did that name come from

doormat · 17/02/2006 09:34

seen on pimp my ride how they make vinyl records into a coffee table top
they use resin to keep them safe and scratch free

A stupid thread about Scientology. Don't ask. It had something to do with martian bishops, intergalactic walruses and steam rollers.

(apologies for hijack, again)
