Closure of another post office - strike action at Millhill

I am appalled to see another office closed, this is going on all the time. The staff are going to other offices or redundancy if they are lucky enought to be offered it, but what they fail to tell you that the post office management are pushing others out of their job at other post offices by the backdoor to make way for the staff at the closed offices, it appears to be to save money ( redundancy) .

This never makes any post office any better infact the service becomes worse under the new franchaise. PLEASE SUPPORT THE STAFF OUT ON STIKE AT MILL IF YOU LIVE NEAR BY. They really do have a cause. larsxx

My dh is a branch manager for the po and the staff really do have it hard. They're constantly being pushed to sell sell sell.the offices...home phones, car insurance, travel insurance and if they don'y reach incredibly high targets they don't get they're annual bonus.
Dh has even been ordered to travel down to london to cover the offices that are on strike..with no extra pay.
it really is a sham now the post office knows it will go under as it can't compete with the big banks. Iwish they would just give everyone redundancy that wnts it before there's no money left to pay out redundancy let alone employee pensions!!

alicemama, my dh is in the same position and is finding their tactics of selling, just gone too far. DH is having a hard time and I feel the over all management have really lost the plot. I've always worked in selling but feel they are taking it a little too far and expecting too much from the staff. Maybe this is the aim to stress the staff out so they leave? larsxx

alicemama, BTW my dh did not have to cover any of the offices that are striking. What do you mean your dh is not getting extra pay, what about travelling??? larsxx

stressed out is an under statement!
every day someone will come into the office crying or going off sick with stress.
Dh is now doing a computer course and is actively looking for another job...he absolutely hates it there!

alicemama, my dh is thinking the same the area manager is a b--!!! He has cause my dh so much stress and try to intimidate all the time. He has done it to a number of managers in the area. DH has had enough of it and really would like to go if this is the way it's going. larsxx

which area is he in? dh has just had a new area manager who he doesn't really know yet but the old one was quite nice even rang me up to congratulate me on birth of our daughters. But there are so many managers that don't know how to do their job let alone help the rest of the staff. How they're supposed to cover at these other offices when they're not even supposed to ever go on the counter! And I know of managers that refuse to go on the counter even if there's only 2 members of staff and a queue out of the door a mile long.
You can only ask so many times if someone wants new home phone and customers are annoyed let alone the staff.....sorry for the rant!

Alicemama, dh is in the outer london area.
I know exactly what you are saying. My dh had a really nice area maanger before the new one has been there since april, he is awful and upset so many staff and think he is a rule unto himself. He is rude and arrogant and just wants more and more.
He has been really awful to my dh and is not following company procedure. larsxx

company proceedure....what's that!!!!

lars · 13/02/2006 16:50

Alicemama, company procedure appears to be non exsitence and the stress free enviroment.
Post office counters have to be really careful on this, they have big sued before and courts offering other post office managers large payouts. That why this is under the health and safety now. My dh has said this is not stress free and he has been out under alot of pressure and intimdation in the workplace. larsxx
