has no one any idea of kids' 1940's fashion? help? have looked at some photos online but not sure whether they should be colourful or not?

how old are thecute kids?
i think a pair of long shorts for a boy with a grey school shirt and a tie would be good. long socks pulled up to below the knee.

a girl is harder.mmmmmmm trying to think....

i love the book of carries war! didn't know there was a musical

i think shabby would be the order of the day too, as rationing meant clothes hard to come by.

i think the cover of carries war has her wearing a skirt and cardigan.sort of tweedy.

the two youngest are 5(GIRL)6(BOY). The older ones get provided with whatever the directors/producers decide on. I don't think they want them to look too school-uniformish but I know that they want the boys to wear long grey socks and sort of three quarter length trousers. It's the girls i'm finding harder to dress. I know they have to wear white long socks and black shoes/pumps. Do you think a sort of rain-mac type coat would pass?

yeah i think so- in a navy or brown.
i think shirt and tie was pretty much standard clothing in those days for boys, school or otherwise.
my son had long shorts for school from john lewis last summer.they came to his knees and cost about £6.

the mac would be good-belted in the middle.
and they'll need little brown boxes to carry on astring over their shoulders.(gas masks!)

have you seen the Narnia film yet? very authentic 1940s kidswear - good pics here and here
Wool coat or mack in a muted colour sounds good
