Our house is on the market atm and we are looking at places to move to.We have always lived in this area although tbh it has always been a bit expensive as I don't work(health)we now plan to sell and buy somewhere cheaper to get rid of our mortgage. Our dilemma is do we buy a small hous ein the same area,or do we buy a similar house or even bigger in a less desirable area.Schools etc no prob as ds is in the best local school anyway. The cheaper areas are a mix of ex local authority and bungalows but nice gardens and big rooms the only down is slightly further for ds and school and dp is so snobby!I am keen to move cheaper and have a life tbh rather than paying a huge mortgage each month and am not as snobby as dp.

I'm going to be facing this exact problem soon noddy. Now we have four kids I really think I'm going to be priced out of this area and so the decision will be made for me. I can't cram us all in to a house around here, but I like the area and have built up quite a few friendships.

I'd be interested to know what research you've done in the other areas. I know Patcham has some great properties but it's so close to the road with the influx of traffic, especially in the summer. Also it's a long way into town.

I agree about pokey rooms though. During the winter I spend so much time indoors I always end up feeling I should move to a big house in a dodgier area, but then the summer comes and things change.

What an utterly pointless post. Sorry.

That is already happening there are may people who just can't afford the big houses in this area and are squezzed into little houses with a few kids About 2 mins up the road are all the nice big gardens but just not the same vibe

Spider some areas of Patcham are really nice and although I don't need space for kids we do have drums etc and my reiki stuff and we do a lot of entertaining so like space.I am going to view some houses in Patcham so will let you know

I do have a soft spot for Patcham, yes. I'd be very interested to see how it goes. I'd advise you to listen out for the A23 when you view houses there and be sure to go at a busy time. It's very loud from my friend's garden. She's pretty close though.

location

expatinscotland · 10/02/2006 21:18

if i had no kids, i'd go for space, but w/kids, location takes priority over everything.
