Foreign object in jar of sauce. Who best to contact?

I poured a jar of Tesco own brand sauce onto some chicken and what I thought was a sliced mushroom turned out to be something that looks like black asphalt about an inch in diameter. On closer inspection I noticed smaller slivers of the same stuff in the sauce.

I don't have a receipt for the sauce which was bought a couple of months ago but what I'm more concerned with is the £6 of chicken breasts that I threw away. I washed the sauce off but there were black bits stuck to the chicken that put me off! Do you think they will give me replacements? Again I don't have a receipt, they were bought from a butchers. Should I contact a local store or Customer Services? I don't want to be fobbed off with £1.09 sauce replacement.

You will get a better result from contacting their customer services phone line (not the store number). They will probably want you to take the product instore (if you kept it) so that they can send it off and have it checked to see what exactly is in it. Instore I would guess at a replacement product and the cost of the chicken, their customer service department is likely to offer you more than that in my experience.

Thanks for that. I was in the store this evening but decided not to say anything. I have kept the jar and put the item in it. I will contact customer services tomorrow or Monday.
