....and wonder secretly if they are a Mumsnetter too? I find myself doing this occasionally and think I could be chatting anonymously with people I know and love/hate in RL without knowing it! I obviously need to get out more....

you are not alone i often stand in the playground while waiting for my dd to come out of school and look around wondering wether they too are mnetters and wether or not i have spoken to them without realising!!!!!

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 09/02/2006 20:11

on the other hand - when I went to the Christmas meet up I found myself chatting to people and wondering if they were peoepl i know love/hate - (well not hate, but perhaps have crossed in some way) - on mn! (can't remember names etc from mn)

Redtartanlass · 09/02/2006 21:01

Yes all the time. I think there should be a 'secret' badge you can wear. So if you're at the checkout at Tescos or up before a Judge, you would know. Kinda like the Freemasons and their dodgy handshake

If you saw another Mumsnet badge, you wouldn't be allowed to say "Oh Hello who are you on Mumsnset?" but you'd have to drop your 'name' in conversation. For example to the Tesco Till Lady I couldsay "Mmmm that's a lovely Red Tart, lass!"

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat may have a bit of a problem though

mandylife boats I think I need to get more!!!

God yes. I wondered if a woman I talked to in the playground today was actually. So, if you're a medial nutritional person and you talked to me at 3.30, show yourself!

mandylifeboats · 10/02/2006 18:25

RedtartanLass, the Freemasons thing had occurred to me too when I was typing the OP, anyone else old enough to remember Tingha and Tucka (koala bears, kids show circa 1965)? They had a cool greeting with 'Auntie Jean'.Gonna see if anyone remembers before I enlighten you youngsters!

Finally got back to this thread, and as it seems I am the only one old enough (or daft enough) to remember Tingha & Tucka the special sign went something like this...
close your hand into a loose fist
extend index finger
lay it along your nose (tip on forehead)
nod head slowly to person being greeted.
(Loses a bit in translation methinks!)
So if you see someone you suspect of being a closet MNer, try it and see what happens. If you see someone doing it making a t*t of themselves in Tescos, its probably me!
Happily admit to being a bit loopy today, got news that DS2 passed his 11+ this am, so chuffed!

I think we got badges but they were huge with on them. Not really the sort of thing you would be happy going out every day wearing.

I often wonder if there are other Mnetters around when I am out.

MrsSpoon · 11/02/2006 15:27

In fact here they are here. Flicking through the pages there are also ones that say "Virtual Mother" on them and are a little more subtle. Anyone got a MN thong?
