Hi there Tinkerbell,

I might be able to help. I'm a make-up artist. I specialise in fanstasy make-up and bodypainting, but I do do some fashion and editorial stuff too, I'm guessing from your thread titles thats what your interested in.

Where are you studying? What level course are you on? Where in the country are you based? I might be able to give you some advice. I teach at one of the colleges on a Media Make-up BTEC PDC.

Have you thought of testing? Its the best way of getting some creative work together which is a must in that field, and also of building up an impressive portfolio. I could recommed sites like www.whoistesting.com as a good place to start. That and getting your self some work experience or assisting work with existing MUA's already working in the field who's work you like, that gives you a foot in the door and somewherer to start networking.

Are you going to the Warpaint SHow in March? Did you visit IMATS last week? There are often lots of great people there to network with and get ideas from.

HTH and good luck, its a tough field to break into.

thank you so much for your reply.
Im studying a BTEC at the moment
Im based in oxfordshire, but able to travel.
I dont really know how to find out about shows etc and get tickets.
I will try that website you gave me and see if anything comes from that.
Yeah I have been told it is very hard to break into it, but I will do my best to become very well trained and trying to find work experience as much as possible to help my training.
Thank you so much for your reply

Hi again, I teach in central london but I'm based down in wiltshire but I still manage, london's not far and to be honest I travel all over anyway.

I'm shocked your college doesn't tell you about the trade shows! IMATS has been and gone this year but is usually in January, Its the show for the International Make-Up Artists Magazine www.makeupmag.com/ info on the magazine and show and getting tickets for next time.

Warpaint is the trade show for UK make-up artists magazine warpaint - its definately worth getting if your starting out - and going to the show as its free entry, the only cost is seminars if you want to do any which are £5 a pop, its over 3 days and each day has a theme. I will dig around as I have a voucher thing somewhere to get tickets and it has a number on it to call for more free tickets.

What kind of work ave you done so far? I do sometimes take work experience students on some jobs - so its possible there might be an opportunity for you there if you are interested. Do you have any images of your work you can send me etc? Visit my website www.emmacammack.com and have a peek and let me know - most of my stuff at the moment is advertising based but it might be a foot in the door for you.

Found it.

Its Warpaint - The Event, 5th - 7th March at Excel London. (Docklands)

Each day is themed - Sunday is "An audience with a legend" with seminars from leading MUA's from stage and screen.

Monday is "Runway Glamour" concentrating of fashion indusrty.

Tuesday is "Living Bodyart" concentrating on bodypainting and Body Art.

Number for tickets and info is 0870 429 4498

I'm taking my class on the tuesday.

Hope that helps. Emma x
