As some of you may remember, my ds is having to go to school in fancy dress on Friday, with the theme being 'Jobs for the Future'. Last week, me and one of the mums I chat to were moaning about it, and she said she had no ideas what to do. At the time the only idea I had was for ds to go as a pilot who takes tourists to the moon, and I told her so. I then asked for ideas on Mumsnet, and after somebody's great suggestion, decided to send him as an 'eco-warrior'.
This morning, a group of us were all chatting about it again, and the mum I had spoken to before piped up, 'Oh, I'm sending Ryan as a pilot on a spaceship'!! I just stood there aghast, she had no idea I had changed my mind as to what I was sending my ds as, and was even passing the idea off as her own!!
I got home and phoned dh to moan, and he said, 'Well, why didn't you say anything?' It's stupid I know, I didn't want to cause an arguement over it but it's left me very annoyed!! Am I being petty? - probably!!

Bomper, you should pity her for not being able to think of her own idea LOL! FGS make sure your ds's costume is a good one!

Ha Ha.. cheeky mare !
if it really pees you off then next time you see her...say lightheartedly 'oi! you cheeky mare..nicking my idea!...and taking all the credit!'

KBear · 07/02/2006 10:33

Poor unimaginative woman - pity her! I would annoy me too but be secretly smug that you gave her the idea and she knows it!

That sounds like a pretty tough theme for fancy dress by the way - bless the teacher that thought that up!

Copying is the sincerest form of flattery!

have a big smile and know that your DS will be a true original on Friday!

Racers · 07/02/2006 10:37

Agreed, cheeky mare! Eco-warrior is much cooler though.

Furball · 07/02/2006 10:39

I wonder if you did send your son in as a spaceship pilot, if she'd be thinking/telling everyone that you were the copycat! Just make sure that your ds' costume is super-dy-dooperdy!

Oh phew - glad I'm not the only one who thinks she's a cheeky mare!! Ds is so excited about being an eco-warrior though, I'm sure he'll much prefer it. And as for whoever thought the theme up in the first place - well, I am sure they sat there thinking 'What can we do that'll REALLY piss the parents off'!!! He,he,he!!

Of course, she may have forgotten where her idea came from, but if you are chatting again and get the feeling that she stole your idea, I'd be tempted to say something along the lines of:

Oh I had planned to send him as a space pilot (as you know Mrs X), but DS chose the eco-warrior as the more ethical/realistic/cool/etc option

fairyjay · 07/02/2006 12:52

or when you're chatting and the subject comes up, say that you'd rather not say what ds is going as, incase xxxx decides to nick that ideas as well!!!
