Hi dd1 has been invited to a party and I don't know what to buy for the child he will be 5. I know he likes spiderman and power rangers but he already has alot of these figures / toys
I haven't had alot of experience with boys !
I am looking to spend between £5 - £10 any suggestions please

I always bought ds friends the Geomag set,(those little magnets that get every where).

books
richard Scarry - cars and trucks and things that go, what do people do all day?

Spidermama · 06/02/2006 18:30

Geomag is good, I agree.
How about a torch? Robert Dyas do a really great wind up torch (no batteries needed) which is about £7 and my son loves his.

A Lego Knight? Some Knex? Blow football? Ikea does a little kit that's a bit like Meccano called Bygga (build your own digger/plane type of thing). Paper plane kit? Soft skittles? Could go on...

someone posted about a light in Ikea that looked like a ghost and was battery powered .. bizarrely I think DS who is going to be 5 soon would love that

Thanks for all your suggestions I love the torch idea and Geomag though he has a younger sister (6 months) are these things she could eat if he leaves them out. I know it is not my responsibility if she does but I would feel guilty. He has got 2 older brothers so has loads of cars trucks etc. I would like to get him a book as he is not encouraged top read at home, but get the feeling this would be put in a corner and forgotten about. Maybe this is a good reason for buying books?
Thanks everyone

Fabulous Book .. The Rascally Cake

Personally i would avoid buying anything like geomag for a child without asking the parent .. too many little fiddly bits and its recommended from 6 up (although we are getting it for DS's 5th birthday)

PandaG · 06/02/2006 19:20

How about factual books? Ds (6) loves them. Book People (www[dot]thebookpeople[dot]co[dot]uk) often have sets very reasonably priced, I usually stock up on a few at a time so have present in hand when the invites come (and saves and postage and packing).

a toy car. if it makes noises that drive mum mad - then its brill

Albatros · 06/02/2006 19:46

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I've now got loads of great ideas. I think he would love the binoculars. He does like power Rangers, they are what? Nitfreecod. Did these come out before Christmas because I expect he or his brothers got some for Christmas if they did.
I think I will get him a toy and a book, something he will instantly like and something (the book) that hopefully he will go back to.
