Nits thread number 3467 ... I just watched a headlouse die under a microscope.

I bought ds a microscope for his 6th birthday. At first we looked at the prepared slides which came with it (pine needle cross section - pretty, onion - big cells etc) then progressed onto his choices (pond water - nothing, bogey - dull).

This evening I found two lice on ds3's head, picked them off and put them under the lens. OMG! Amazing. It looked just like this but better, hairier and moving. We could see its beating heart FFS! We could see the blood coursing through it's transluscent body. It was very exciting.

Actually I felt sorry for it because we were watching it die. Sympathy for the devil eh?

they have been on the retreat but can't get total surrender!

cool. where did you get the microscope from. my dd1 is nearly 6 and an avid bug-collecter. she also has persistent nits. this would be an ideal present!

we could also inspect dd2's (occasional) worms. turning our infestations to scientific advantage

fennel it's a brilliant microscope which was recommended to me on this thread.

It's fab. I bought the RM1 and a torch to go with it. They do next day delivery.

My son danced round the kitchen yesterday shouting, 'Yes, Yes! I LOVE my microscope' which is the sort of response one dreams about when choosing presents/

how utterly cool

I got a microscope for my 10th (?) birthday, it was fabby, I will never forget the thrill of opening it.

oliveoil · 01/02/2006 15:57

are nits really common then? Is there no escape?

I am dreading school.

I used to love microscopes as well. And binoculars.

Enid · 01/02/2006 15:58

never thought I would

we have a fine old time with the comb and coinditioner

Don't buy the Visio comb - its crap!

DD and I have just taken part in an extended trial (this is the second more extensive trial following an earlier successful trial) for a new treatment. They come to your home and treat you and comb for you. Touch wood, it seems to be working when all the combing hadn't!
Its in the Cambridge area, if anyone is interested call 08454 300 300
