Hello Charliecat, I don't know if I can be of any help but I live just a few miles away from Brenchley and Matfield. What would you like to know?
Ps i'm about to nip out but I'll hopefully catch up with you later.

Thanks Twinkie and Cuddlemonkey. I was offered a house swap there but i rang the nearest school and there was a huge waiting list and no pavement to walk to school so ive given up hope. I was going to ask what the bus services were like, since found out there are only 2 going past the school a day and at the wrong times, but thank you anyway!

I'm afraid I don't have much experience of the buses in Matfield. I do know that in my area they are fairly infrequent.
Is the school actually Brenchley and Matfield? When I moved down here I too found they were oversubscribed and also a little unhelpful concerning their admissions policy. There are other good schools in nearby villages who may be more helpful.
There are also special taxi services (I believe) run by Kent County Council who can take your children to school if you are a certain distance from them (I'm afraid I don't know the criteria for this). It may be worth looking into. There are several that run children to my ds's school in Paddock Wood.
Both villages are lovely though.

does that taxi thing apply to the whole of kent cuddlemonkey? I am moving to east kent and I am looking at a school for my dd that is in the next village, it suits her needs best. She has special needs and this particular school has a specialist unit attached which sounds perfect for her.

Cuddlemonkey - we must be neighbours
I have a friend who'se son goes to Brenchley primary.

cuddlemonkey · 19/11/2003 15:06

fio2, i'm not much help, sorry, I don't know too much about the taxi thing, just that there are some kids at ds's school who are dropped off and collected each day. It may be worth phoning the Kent County Council about this as I'm not sure if it applies only to certain areas.

fio2- if your dd goes to a specialist unit for her SN then you should be provided with transport there from wherever you live. Some places use buses, some taxis plus escorts.

We don't get transport but that's becuase we've chosen mainstream and the LEA say the local mainstream school is good enough. My friend's who have children attending either special school, or units attached to mainstream schools all have transport.

Thanks for your help. I know she will get a taxi/escort to the one place but if I am looking at the mainstream school with the specialist unit on it is too far for me to walk and I have no car atm.
