what do you mean 'allow'???? It's gorgeous by the way...

WigWamBam · 20/01/2006 19:27

My dh would "allow" me to buy it, but he would sooner eat his own toes than sleep under it ...

SoupDragon · 20/01/2006 19:27

Far too girly.

Lacrimosa · 20/01/2006 19:29

BUY IT its gorgeous! its a good price too! we only buy throws for our bed, so yes he would not that id ask

Prufrock · 20/01/2006 19:29

I have to say I wouldn't want it - and do think that a (heterosexual) couples bedroom should reflect the fact that a man and woman sleep their, but my dh would neither try nor get away with "allowing" or "disallowing" me something!

busybusybee · 20/01/2006 19:30

I though you would say that
I say "allow" cos dh would go nuts if I bought it without his approval!
He would say "Who is going to sleep under it! Im not! It is too pink"

Which of course it is but I still love it!

tillykins · 20/01/2006 19:31

he doesn't have a say in terms of allowing, but I wouldn't buy it in pink cos he doesn't like pink (unless its lace and on me )

If it is for something under £30 and/or entirely not to do with Dh then of course i just go ahead and buy it!

But this is £99 and i would rather like it in our bedroom. It seems only fair to get his approval.

My Dh would let me buy whatever I want (within financial common sense) - as long as he has the right to moan about it and dislike it very loudly for a long time..
That is the sort of thing I would love to have on my bed and DH would describe as a "granny?s flowery rug!"
I am not very good at buying things I know DH will hate as I know I will end up feeling guilty. I sound like a doormat now!

LipstickMum · 20/01/2006 19:41

My dp wouldn't let me buy it, mainly because it's too girly.
But also he likes to have a say in pretty much everything we do to the house as far as interior design goes. It means we both have to compromise. My neighbour, on the other hand chooses everything, her dh couldn't care less which lamp she chooses, which colour to repaint the front door, bedding etc etc. She often asks me my opinion about stuff and then says "ask your dp what he thinks", knowing it's the only mans opinion she'll get!

busybusybee · 20/01/2006 19:48

If only we had a spare room!
Then i could buy it and dh wouldnt need to go near it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love anything with small floral prints, gingham, patchwork etc - especially blues and pinks - Dh of course isnt so keen!

Aloha · 20/01/2006 19:49

I'd just buy it and spring it on him. Honestly, dh thinks he wants a say, but if it was really up to him we'd live in a cave, and he knows it.

busybusybee · 20/01/2006 19:54

Aloha - what would he say if you draped a pink quilt on the bed - would he mind?

My dh is always complaining he feels like a lodger rather than a resident husband - cos hes busier with work and rarely home

A pink quilt might tip the balance dont you think

starlover · 20/01/2006 19:58

hmm well dp doesn't allow or disallow me to buy anything!
he was rather taken aback with the pink and purple flowery duvet cover i got a while back but i still use it and i don't thin he really cares that much!

Aloha · 20/01/2006 20:01

busybusybee - he might grumble a bit, but not be sufficiently outraged to do anything about it. Like buy another one. So it would stay. Passive resistence, that's the way!

busybusybee · 20/01/2006 20:05

Hmmmmmmm Now of course I am feeling more tempted

I might sell some of our old baby gear on here in order to justify the cost

OP posts:
tegan · 20/01/2006 20:14

DH says he loves it but it is way too expensive.

KateF · 20/01/2006 20:22

It's gorgeous and I have to say that dh is usually the one who likes flowery stuff and I go for plainer things. However I do have a fatal weakness for patchwork and dd3 is called Philippa so I'm meant to have one aren't I, aren't I...........

TinyGang · 20/01/2006 20:30

Not sure about 'allow' but if I really wanted it I'd have to do some serious convincing.

morningpaper · 20/01/2006 20:33

eek

NannyL · 20/01/2006 20:43

I say almost everything from peacock blue is fab so go ahead and buy it!

IvortheEngine · 20/01/2006 22:11

Thanks for starting this thread. I think I've spotted a lovely rug on Peacock Blue's website that would be great for dd's new bedroom. I've requested a catalogue to get all the details.
I do understand the "checking with dh/dp/dw" thing. I bought a new duvet cover from Laura Ashley the other day and I got it out from the packet and lay it on the bed as it would be in use to get dh's opinion. He said it was fine, but I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it. Hmmm.
