I think it is okay for France...but not 100% sure.

Passport valid for three months beyond length of stay required by all, except:

  1. nationals of EU countries, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and Switzerland holding valid national ID cards.

So, I don't think you have to have any particular duration left, just so long as it is still in date on your return to the UK.

According to the Going Places website:

'For travel to EU countries your passport must be valid both at your date of departure and your date of return.'
