The sky man is here installing sky so we won't need our freeview...would love to put it in the bedroom but the tv up there is so old it hasn't got a scart socket!! Has/does anyone know if it will link up just using the ariel?

No - you need a scart cable - having just connected MILs for her I know this!!!!

Does anyone know if Freeview would work in Budapest (am happy to pay licence fee by the way!!).

Don't think so BudaBabe as it operates on an aerial feed. You could get a digibox and dish and receive the free channels via Satellite, even without subscribing to Sky.

how strange - was just discussing this with dh. Maybe you can help - as ever lizs - we've currently got sky, but on recent uk visit saw that freeview now has l;oads of channels - probably everything we now watch, so would like to ditch the £21 pm sky. But it said (freeview website) that you could only get it via ariel, not satellite dish. Is this right? Is there no way we could get freeview in Ch? How does it work if yes - could we just buy a freeview box in uk & wiggle our dish a bit? (Not very knowledgable!)

ernest, don't know tbh , as we subscribed when over there but would have thought the aerial and satellite signals were separate. However friends in Ch use their Sky dish and digibox(bought on ebay) with no Sky subscription and just pick up everything that doesn't require the card. You used to be able to get the equivalent of a freeview card for a digibox free from BBC, although that may not now be the case. This site may help clarify. I understand that channels like BBC1 and 2 are becoming more readily available via Cable now so thinsg are gradually moving on !

this site lists all the channels which should be available without a Sky subscription card !
