....because I'm not and I need to buy my dad a special Christmas present for helping me out with my childcare this year. He loves looking at art, talking about it with other people and listening to experts talk about art.

I tried to get him on a course at the National Gallery in London, which he would love, but the courses are spread out over a number of weeks and he can't spend that long in London.

Can anyone recommend a talk/tour or something I could book for him at a museum/college/somewhere in London? I know you can do free stuff at the museums but that's not much of a present and he's quite dodery now so I want him to be in a relaxed, non-crowded atmosphere so I'm happy to pay a bit of money.

Thank you!

What a nice present. Could you buy a membership to one of the galleries (I know that the ROyal Academy has a great 'friends of' programme where you can get early (and free) entry to exhibitions plus access to talks etc.
I think either the national portrait gallery or the national galleryyou can buy one to one tours so could be done at your dad's pace and/or looking at art in a gentre that he really loves.

thanks so much lion mummy. I've had a look at becoming a friend of the Royal Accademy and I think it could be a winner

Lionmummy, sorry to harp on, I know I've already thanked you but just wanted to say that the gift pack for my dad from the Royal Academy has just arrived and I am so delighted. Even I can't stop reading it and I'm not in to arty things (as you already know)

Dad is going to be so delighted on Christmas Day - thank you so much!
