It is the acid in it that reacts with the carbonate salts that make up lime scale.....it might make it fizz a bit....the gas given off is harmless, carbon dioxide. Any acid would work, vinegar for example. Try to get an much of the tolet water out first and then put the coke in, and leave overnight.

Take the top off the cistern and hold the arm bit up so no more water can come into the cistern. Then flush. The water currently in the cistern will go down the loo, but the cistern won't refill. Flush again. Let go of arm - cistern will refill. Loo is now as empty as possible and cistern is full ready for post-coke flushage.

you can also empty a lot of water out of the toilet by pushing the toilet brush to the back of the pan quickly and repeatedly - -at least you can if you own a toilet brush - so out of favour these days

scalegon does wonders after bleach didnt touch the problem. Get it in hardware stores pink liquid, homemade style bottle.
