ok have decided to commit myself to doing an activity with ds.
mostly to get myself out of the house and maybe make some friends round here.

have e-mailed kindermusik, the jo jingles lady and tumbletots so far.... which would you choose?

any experience of how good/bad any of them are?

tbh you may find your choice limited by waiting lists. Even so ds preferred a music based one to physical given the choice. Does Fittots still operate from the Dragons Health club in Copthorne as that used to be a one-off membership fee, then pay per session rather than termly. Also had a session on Sundays which was useful. ds really enjoyed it.

hana · 09/01/2006 17:16

it all depends on who's running the session for those things. I did jo jingles with dd1 and the leader was fantastic, did that for several terms. Signed dd2 up for jo jingles and it was awful..........only did 6 weeks. Still haven't organised something else for dd2 yet!

tumbletots is more about movement
jo jinlges is sitting in a circle singing and sometimes dancing and playing instruments
haven't heard of kindermusic

have you checked out what free activities might be available in your area? Like library rhyme times/story sessions. If you live in/near a Surestart area they have loads of free stuff on.

starlover · 09/01/2006 17:18

thanks... some of them do free taster sessions so i guess it's a case of going along and seeing what it's like

LIZS not sure about fittots.. will investigate... that's only a couple of mins up road from me so would be fab! lol

Kindermusik is similar to Jo Jingles but in a high brow, strcutured creative learning way iyswim - each theme and level has a specific educational purpose.

starlover · 09/01/2006 17:19

mts... yes library does jiggle and rhyme time but it gets SO packed in there and ds won't sit still for story... wants to just wander off! lol

As you know, I love Jo Jingles... but as hana said I guess it does depend a lot on who takes it. Ours is quite good about babies wandering off and not wanting to sit still which is good. Would like to do Tumbletots but am not going to pay £8 a session for it here (grrr.. rant rant again !!) I would say go for some trial sessions and see which suits you/Linus.

NannyL · 09/01/2006 18:27

Never been to the first 2 but tumbletots is FAB! would highly recommend

starlover · 09/01/2006 19:15

tumbletots here is £5 a session... so still quite steep...
think the others are comparable though

I go to an NCT music group - £1 a session (for a family) with a coffee and biscuit. Not very formal but don't mind the kids just wandering around, and don't feel like I'm tied as don't have to pay for sessions I don't go to.

I liked Jo jingles and Monkey Music (similar sort of thing) but I thought they were really expensive and I didn't find they were good for socialising as we weren't encouraged to hang around afterwards.

FrannyandZooey · 09/01/2006 19:37

I personally did not like JoJingles but as has been pointed out already, so much depends on the group leader. A friend of mine is a Kindermusik teacher and I think their syllabus is good, with much less commercialism in the classes. At JoJingles it all seems to be about the brand, and the pappy pre-recorded music is just the pits.

is this the website for tumble tots and if so, who is that scary man?

starlover · 09/01/2006 19:43

Brilliant! I would definitely go for Tumbletots in that case then, looks by far the best hat and mustache. Jo Jingles' hat and mustache just can't compete.

DD went to a "pre school Gym class". Taken by a qualified gymnastic teacher at the local sports centre. They progress on to full on gymnastics and both DD and DS who started later still go and love it. Was £2 per session pay as you go no fees in advance.

I would wonder just how much training the tumble tots franchise owners have to qualify them to take a class of babbies/ toddlers. has.

magicfarawaytree · 10/01/2006 01:35

we do jabberjacks and tumbletots and have enjoyed both. I think it will largely come down to the person taking the class you go to. Most of them allow taster sessions so you can try before you buy.

expatinscotland · 10/01/2006 07:39

DD1 goes to TumbleTots and loves it!
