It was dp's birthday yesterday so we decided we'd try the Hyngry Horse place for dinner as it looked like a family place and is the only one close enough to walk to so he could drink.

Never ever again!!!

When we got there we had to sit there for about 15 minutes before someone bothered to come and clear/clean the table and high chair. We were in the 'non-smoking' bit which was full of smoke from the smoking bit. We ordered and paid at the bar and were told it'd be half an hour before the food came...real pain with an 18 month old but we managed to keep him amused.
When the food came it was a joke!!! The kids veg were cold. Our veg were raw, the parsnips and potatoes were black etc etc etc!!!

Are all Hungry Horse places that bad??

Yes! Our local one is hideous. They recently refurbished it and added a children's play area but it is right in the middle of the smoking section! The food is dreadful, cheap but dreadful and the people have got to be seen to be believed. There was a big family punch up when we were there one Sunday lunch time - my DDs still talk about it and it was months ago!

afraid they all seem to be bad......ours is right near a scummy council estate so on a saturday evening it is full of teenagers getting psed whilst their kids run riot - it also attracts the gypsies which we watched take food off the plates which were waiting to be cleared away!! Yuck!! Not an ideal night out!!!
Did you complain?????

vickiyumyum · 09/01/2006 11:18

at the weekends, they are definatley chav central, all wanting their big plate roast dinners with a 'whole' chicken, but during the week, they can be quite nice, our local one has an outdoor play area, which is clean and nic and quiet in the week, so in the summer often meet friends there for lunch and the kids play. we get to have a cheap meal out and the kids get to eat and play while mummy and her friends have a long gossip, without worrying too much what the kids are up to.

whereas in the winter it is all indoor play areas that give me a headache.

we have only been to hungry horse twice on a weekend and both time the food wa awful, the service was terrible and the place was packed with kids running around seemingly out of control!

I've made a complaint on their website so will see what they say - as long as they don't send vouchers lol

Think we'll stick to our country pub carvery in future!!!
