My mum is having an op tomorrow just to have a look inside her knee. she's been signed off work for 2 weeks.
but she's going to be at home alone for most of the day (my dad works long hours).

she has also been told that it is highly likely they will do a partial knee replacement...
does anyone know what that involves? what the recovery is like? does it really fix stuff?

what can i do to make it easier fr her?

erm, ive had a knee op - just 2 arthroscopies (camera in knee).

It was very sore and swollen for a week afterwards and they squelched for some time after too

My FIL had a partial knee replacement. He was in quite alot of pain, and tbh, felt that it was worse after as the pain was greater even though he had slightly more movement. My mum also had a camera in knee op and found it was worse after.

HOWEVER - it was by the same surgeon, who, IME and IMO, is not very good and i had heard many complaints about his handy work in the past so it may not really be a measure of anything.

Make sure she can get drinks easily - trying to carry a cup of tea whilst hobbling is a nightmare - impossible if on crutches.

Other than that - the more she moves it afterwards the better for her so i wouldnt recommend moving her bed downstairs or any such like.

I hope it goes well for her in any case.

thanks for replies!
squelching doesn't sound very nice QV!!!
I'm not sure if i am more help being over there or not, as have norty ds with me at all times so not sure i'll really be much help.. but don't want her to be struggling there by herself.

she's quite lucky in that the nhs are paying for her to have it done at a private clinic! so hopefully it'll all go well... hopefully it's not your surgeon QV!! lol

If she's south of the river she'll be fine

hey, i was thiking the other day that i should really come up to london to meet lockets (she always comes down here).... so seeing as we didn't get to meet at the BIG meet-up maybe we could all 3 do something?
