There's a piece in the Guardian Family section today about him and his daughter, who does eventing - it's here. He sounds like the worst kind of inverted snob, I couldn't believe it (maybe someone will come along and tell me he was taking the piss? [hopeful].)

People like this pee me off enormously.I used to encounter the same reverse snobbery where I used to live.Because dh & I were married, both worked & owned our own house, the majority of the women in the street wouldn't speak to us.

The mans an arse.I won't read the article because it will just wind me up.

Hmmm, his need to point out his dislike (in such a vehement manner) of people with "posh accents and tweed" stinks of someone attempting to cover their feelings of vulnerability within a circle he perceives as such (i.e. not 'working class') and therefore outside the realms of his ("working class" [sic!]) comfort zone.

Then again, my step-father (chairman of a large region of a national riding club, not BHS, not in the UK in fact but its equivalent elsewhere) is the most plum in the gob, tweed clad (when the occasion dictates) hypocritical wazzok I have ever had the displeasure to meet (let alone be brought up by!).
For all that, he wasn't 'classist' (much )!

Where I now live, I was pretty much outcast from the local community because I have the wrong accent, views, interests, etc (have been told as such on a number of occasions)...... prophetical really because now I can't seem to find the good in my local community and I've given up trying. I feel quite disparaging of it and continue to waver around on the edges, uncomfortable.
