Am getting a new Zafira in march, on motability, and I need new carseats as mine are old. What seats do you use and what is recommended?

Go to Halfords and they will advise, they told us that some Vauxhalls will ONLY fit Britax car seats safely. They were brilliant with us, tried 3 separate seats before they found one that fit (which happened to be the cheapest ) and they fitted dd into the seat so that the belts were adjusted properly

I have one britax seat already, so will that one be ok?

i have a zafira and have used a primo viaggio with base and now have a britax eclipse for dd2 and a britax highliner for ds2 who is 4 if thats any help.

LIZS · 05/01/2006 21:22

Can you check on the Britax fit finder ?

gigglinggoblin · 05/01/2006 21:24

warning re halfords - when we went there and asked for a seat suitable for a lap belt the guy recommended the most expensive car seat in the shop. dp read the label and it said in big letters NOT SUITABLE FOR USE WITH LAP BELTS. pointed it out to the guy and he still said it would be fine, actually stood and argued with dp that manufacturers just put that on to cover themselves! i would read the which report misdee posted a while ago so you are armed with the info when you go!

well I would but for some unknown reason it keeps telling me to enable cookies so I can log in, but they are on.... Confused

an assistant at our local Halfords told me that the Britax Eclipse was not suitable for use in the Zafira, but our of interest I've just checked on the Britax website and it is okay but only in the front three seats.

spacecadet · 05/01/2006 21:51

i checked on the britax fit finder website before i bought our eclipse and it said it fits in the second row of seats, but the buckle may apear to be a bit high up against the seat so check, but ours fits perfectly anyway. very few seats should go on the 3rd row of seats in the zafira, boosters and thats about it.

Gillian76 · 05/01/2006 21:51

We just bought a Zafira and went to Mothercare to try out car seats. We ended up with a MaxiCosi Priori SPS in the middle and two of the new Graco highback/boosters with side impact protection (Rally I think it's called).

They will all 3 of them fit across the back seat if we go on holiday and need all the boot space.

You should have Isofix if you wanted to splash out!

mckenzie · 05/01/2006 21:52

sorry, didn't read the results properly. Iyt actually says
"Based on the vehicles we tested, the Britax Eclipse was shown to fit in the Middle centre passenger seat highlighted in yellow below. However - ?
The seat belt buckle sits quite high and variation in buckle length does occur in this model. We recommend that you check individual car!"

It gave the same comments for the side centre seats as well, ie the whole of the first row behind the driver."

The Freeway is given the OKAY for the centre middle seat but also has restrictions for the outside seats.

If you still cant access the website Sparklymieow let me know and i'll check some others for you if you'd like.

sparklymieow · 05/01/2006 21:55

I have a freeway atm, and two mothercare booster higbacked seats, but the kids are getting a bit big for them and now you can buy booster seats up to age 11, I want to replace them. Was looking at the maxi cosi xp

Gillian76 · 05/01/2006 21:55

We tried the Maxi Cosi XP and the Freeway. Both fitted fine.

sparklymieow · 05/01/2006 21:56

this one for the girls and one in black for DS

They are good, sparkly. We tried them but you will not fit all 3 of them across the middle row. One will have to be in the back.

misdee · 06/01/2006 10:26

does the middle seat in the middle row of seats collaspe independantly btw?

Gillian76 · 06/01/2006 11:35

Each of the 3 seats in the middle row collapse independently but they are all still part of the 1 seat IYSWIM. They all slide forward as a unit, but the backs fold down separately. And the middle seat is quite a bit narrower than the outer 2.

Janh · 06/01/2006 11:45

In the new Zafira I believe the seat part splits as well as the back - about bloody time too, for a family car with 3 rows of seats that was a ridiculous design. I think it probably only splits 60:40 though, not 40:20:40. (I keep peering into them but haven't had a good rummage in one!)

Janh · 06/01/2006 11:46

Gillian, yours isn't the new model is it? (If it is then they lied to me at the Vauxhall garage )

misdee · 06/01/2006 11:47

may need to get one if peter comes home with the machine, but need the middle seat to shift out the way.

Gillian76 · 06/01/2006 11:50

Yes Jan it's the new model, 05 reg. It is definitely a 40:20:40 split in ours. We have the Club version but I don't think the seating varies.

Gillian76 · 06/01/2006 11:51

Misdee the seat won't shift out of the way, just the back fold flat. You can't take the whole thing out. If you fold the middle it's like a big arm rest for the two passengers at either side and a gap into the back.

Hope that makes sense!

misdee · 06/01/2006 11:52

not much good then i dont think. darn. need it to flip forward some more so there is a gap and not an arm rest.

Gillian76 · 06/01/2006 11:53

Can you get a Mazda? The Madza 5 has a seat in the middle which folds out of the way leaving a gap big enough for a child to walk through to the back.

misdee · 06/01/2006 11:54

is it a 6/7 seater? i have 3 kids lol.
