we have done 3 now and are dissapointed each year but they are good for kids. Am tempted to do it this year again for £9.50 each and I always upgrade fully but fancy the France one this time.

when does it start? always mean to never do !

Bomper · 04/01/2006 20:34

We've done it a couple of times, only in this country though, and have got our last choice of week both times. Have always upgraded too, but the holiday parks themselves have always been nice. I usually get the Hoseasons brochure as most of the parks they use are also in there, then you can get a proper look at what they're like before you choose.

We are looking at going abroad this year (1st time in 3 years) but don't see why we can't do both. Providing DH can get the time off work.

When does it start ??

justmummy · 04/01/2006 22:03

Yep we're definitely going to book one again. Have been on 3 before and love them. They're perfect holidays for kids and if it wasn't for these offers we wouldn't get a holiday at all. First token is in saturday's paper (7th January).

mykidsmum · 04/01/2006 22:07

oh you lucky things we did it once and it was so damp we had to come home early Paignton apartments, we have since invested in a tent which is also a cheap gettaway!!!!

Gillian76 · 04/01/2006 22:09

I have heard of this but don't know the details. Anyone fill me in a bit more about how it wirks and where you can go, please?

justmummy · 04/01/2006 22:50

All around the uk and also france, spain & holland. You collect tokens from the Sun and pick 4 parks and 4 dates you would like to go on. They're either 3 or 4 nights - fri to mon or mon to fri. So can't get a full week away. Some holidays are £9.50 per person others in summer are £15 per person. Send form off as soon as you get last token and hopefully you'll get a holiday. They will return money if you're not successful.
We've stayed in Somerset, Dorset and last year the Isle of Wight which was the best. We got half price ferry with that one as well.
We had a brilliant time and even with ferry cost last year we still had a short break for 4 for just over £100!

Gillian76 · 04/01/2006 22:51

Oh sounds good. Are there restrictions on dates?

justmummy · 04/01/2006 22:55

Not sure about all dates. You'd have to get a copy of Sun and find out. First token is on saturday 7th January.

misdee · 04/01/2006 23:01

nope, have always been disappointed with them, so will just do a last minute break with haven/great british holidays instead. often cheaper than the sun deals once they have added on their extra charges.

forgot to say that we've been on 3 or 4 sun offers every year for the last 9 years, and have rarely been dissapointed.

Tips;

  1. Decide what facilities are essential
  2. Decide what facitities you're prepared to compromise on
  3. Research your parks - most of them have a website
  4. When researching your parks, check the prices - as misdee says, it sometimes works out cheaper to book through the brochure by the time the extras are added on, particularly if you go early or late in the season.
  5. £9.50 per person is not the only charge - most sites will bill you direct for entertainment passes, gas, & electric on a per person basis.
  6. Check your bill for additional items such as linen packs - you might want to take your own (We always do at it's a rip off for a few sheets)
  7. Be prepared not to get the really good accommodation - you'll be allocated what people haven't booked through the brochures.
  8. If you want more than one break - buy more than one paper - we've do this every year - for our first sun offers we bought 5 papers, and managed to get 5 consecutiveoffers to make up a fortnights holiday in Devon and Cornwall.
  9. If you're successful have a great time - for us it's really just somewhere to sleep, we're out and about most days.
