FFS DM has caused near fatal over-thinking. Reality check required. Is the Playmobil circus an immoral present???

Gah.

Had decided to get the DC a playmobil circus set for Sinterklaas. Didn't see any harm in it at all. Is second hand: circus tent, wagon for big cat, lion tamers ring, dogs going tricks, trapeze artists, clowns elephants, you know, a Circus. Expensive but quite a bargain IYSWIM.

Well I was telling DM about it and she responded (in a tone of shock and horror) "Oh right, so your going to teach them to cage animals and generally mistreat them are you?". Feck. Well, she may be a daft, neurotic old hippy, but she does kind of have a point. Maybe.

Should I just get a farm instead?

bloody mother

A FARM?! Don't you know they KILL and EAT those poor defenceless animals?

Go for the circus, unless there is no cctv for the cages and the animal tamers carry massive electric cattle prods.

GretaGarble · 11/11/2011 21:18

Dunno. I have been waiting for ages for ds to be of an age to appreciate Playmobil colosseum and now he finally is I realise exactly what it is I am offering him...
(also it's too expensive!)

TheProvincialLady · 11/11/2011 21:19

BTW I am a vegetarian and wouldn't dream of going to a circus with animals in, but a playmobil circus is for pretend, storybook style circus and I don't think it is likely to teach animal cruelty.

PerAr6ua · 11/11/2011 21:22

the only reason not to get one is the half-arsed tunes the bandstand clown thingy plays which are almost, but not quite, recognisable.

Oh, and that your children will never get as much pleasure out of it as you 68 yo aunt. Hmm

trixymalixy · 11/11/2011 21:25

Just get it!! DD has the duplo circus and it is just lovely, so much fun.

catawampus · 11/11/2011 21:28

Aw.

budgieshell · 11/11/2011 21:33

Wait till she see's the playmobil brothel she really will hit the roof.

Georgimama · 11/11/2011 21:34

Does the playmobil pyramid encourage slavery then?

Your DM is over thinking this.

TheProvincialLady · 11/11/2011 21:35

We were thinking of getting the crack den but he already has so many crack pipes that he just uses them with the criminals from the police set and is quite happy. Might get insane asylum instead.

HettyAmaretti · 11/11/2011 21:36

Thanks all. I really didn't think there was any harm in it at all.

Still not sure she hasn't spoiled it for me Hmm

Well, y' see ProvincialLady Mother would say (quite rightly IMHO) that if we're going to eat meat we should be quite aware of where it comes from, DC aren't vegetarian and do know where it comes from. Just a farm seems somewhat duller for them than a Circus. Surely?

circus is fine as long as you have a playmobile vet too

but not the one I saw earlier in the week on MN riding a unicorn on a cow's heart Shock

TheProvincialLady · 11/11/2011 21:41

Ah well in that case you need to get the farm and the slaughterhouse.

Children seem to outgrow farms quite quickly IME. Just get the circus, it's gorgeous.

ImpYCelyn · 12/11/2011 09:37

I am desperate to get the roman arena - the emperor figure can even do a thumbs down sign so that the gladiator will be executed!

The idea of circuses that children have does not involve animal cruelty. It's just fun and lovely to them.

Just enjoy watching DM wince as they play with it. Or put the clowns in cages and let the animals run free...

catawampus · 12/11/2011 11:58

You could get some ALF protestors to stand outside with placards?

OliviaMumsnet · 12/11/2011 12:14

LOL misread thread title and thought you meant Daily Mail....

catawampus · 12/11/2011 15:18

How could you? That DM causes near-fatal underthinking.

We have the Coliseum. It's brutal. Those poor, poor lions.
And there's only one woman. We haven't quite worked out what her role is but she's generally deployed as "Spectator".
