Has anyone else had an email promising them a £10 Mamas and Papas 'giftcard'?

Or is everyone else clever enough to read properly the teeny tiny small print?

I joined up the Hipp website when I was pregnant with DS2, and a couple of weeks ago received an email saying I was entitled to a free £10 Mamas and Papas giftcard.

I therefore did as directed and signed up to the Mama's and Papa's website, and as adviced received an email later from their customer care department entitled 'Gift card'.

The email gives clear instructions on how to use your 'gift card' over the phone, in store or online. So yesterday, off I trot to Mamas and Papas to use my lovely free £10 that I thought I could use to buy a lovely little xmas pressie for DS2. I found something lovely, that we could keep forever, for £10. Lovely, I thought.

Only, of course there was a snag and the code didn't work when the shop assistant tried it, she said she thought it might have to be over the £10 so I went and had a quick look to see if I could buy anything else to bump the price up. I bulked at the cost of a two pack of 3-6 mth socks (£5!!) and when the shop assistant came over having finally found the part of the small print where it specifies that the 'gift card' is in fact a £10 off when you spend more than £20 voucher, I decided that I couldn't justify spending money like this and rather sheepishly left the store.

I'm left feeling like a bit of a scab, to be honest, but also wondering if any other customers have been embarrased into buying things/spending more than they planned after also being caught out? Obviously, in retrospect the 'offer' was too good to be true, but I still feel that by labelling this 'offer' as a gift card it's false advertising and intentionally misleading. Do you think I should complain? Has anyone else had this email?

This is typical M&P.

There stuff is so overpriced that £10 off wouldn't make me want to buy anything at all there.

You aren't the scab. M&P are.
