If I can talk dh into it, we are off to London tomorrow with ds. We get the train to Waterloo and dont really want to travel much further than that. Can anyone suggest any parks near there or other stuff to do with a 3 y/o? We have done the London Eye and Aquarium on previous trips. Ta.

Tate Modern? It's a lovely walk along the river to there, you could stop at Gabriels Wharf for some food (a couple of restaurants overlooking the river) and wander down to the Tate.

Walk over Waterloo Bridge for the views.

Is the ice rink at somerset house open yet, if so it's very pretty there.

Ooooh, brill. The Tate Modern, I'm ashamed to say I havent been there despite being an ex-art teacher, I'd love to go. There again, my transport-mad ds would love the transport museum. Thanks.

If he needs a run around there's a fun swingpark by the London Eye. My 4 yr old loved the transport museum, and it is fun just wandering around Covent Garden itself, and it's not far.

The kids also dragged us to Waterloo just to peer over barriers to try and get a glimpse of the Eurostar ... or there again maybe your ds is not as train-mad as my boys!

Just a quick look before bed. The park next to the London Eye is great and in the summer there are lots of ebtertainers around too. We spent a very happy afternoon there. My ds is train mad so the Eurostar is a good idea too.

The Festival Hall has music and entertainment, views of the river, a nice cafe and room to run around indoors and outdoors. Ds (2) is captivated by the skateboarders. Covent Garden is good for kids, and Somerset house has fountains if not ice rinks. A river trip is great - down from Westminster to Greenwich to see the park/market.

We had a lovely time. Thanks for the great ideas. We decided on a nice walk over Waterloo Bridge, the Transport Museum (fab), a stroll around Cov Gdn and Pizza Express with my brother and SIL for pizza and lots of wine. A brilliant day out marred only by the horrible drunks on the train home .
