I need to trace some old college friends. They are not listed on friendsreunited. They probably still work in advertising. Any ideas?

I am trying to sort out a mini reunion in the next 2 weeks. I need to trace people who were on my copywriting course at college in the mid 1980s. I have tried friendsreunited, but none of them are listed.

It would be so exciting to make contact with even one or two old faces.

I need to move quickly because one of my best friends - and the first ever art director I teamed up with - is in England for the next few weeks only. I haven't seen her for seven years as she lives in New Zealand. She is now in Taunton with her family, due to come to london soon. She has asked if I can contact anyone from our distant past.

I am so looking forward to seeing her. Any ideas appreciated!

stick their names in google? bit lame I know!

WickedWinterWitch · 27/12/2005 19:21

Have you tried just googling them? And their names/where you think they might live?

WickedWinterWitch · 27/12/2005 19:22

Or 192.com is very useful, you need to register I think but it's got everyone on the electoral roll. Try the one with the most unusual surname first.

tigermoth · 27/12/2005 19:23

that's a possibility, thanks!

oh bum, 192.com

tigermoth · 27/12/2005 19:34

I'll let you know, will be googling etc for this tomorrow! I suspect my friend may be thinking of moving back to England, now that her son is 17 and soon to leave the New Zealand education system. I bet my friend is having a lovely time at her parent's home at the moment. It's a very old stone pile, just outside the town. Her mother is so nice and has lots of interesting stuff to talk about(she's a writer, ghost wrote Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady, plus lots of teenage fiction). She and her sisters have missed her a lot.

if they are london based .. I would call round a few agencies and put out feelers ..or even start an email campaign .. its such an incestuous industry you'll probably find someone who knows them

or try nabs

tigermoth · 27/12/2005 19:36

ah yes, good old nabs! that's a great idea!

I know a few people who are still in the industry .. cat me their names and I'll field them out if you want

tigermoth · 27/12/2005 19:38

will do! doubt if they are ultra famous in ad land but you never know.

not fame that'll find them .. its incestuous .. I have so many links between different friends its scary .. especially if they ever freelanced

192.com is excellent. You do need to register but you can get credits for things like filling out surveys (with the minimal amount of info of course!). I've tracekd down a few people by just searching on their names, and it does seem to give a lot of information out.

Another one of those sites where it is very interesting to search on your own street.

tigermoth · 29/12/2005 09:22

beety, do you mean if I register with 192.com? I have a problem in that I don't know where any of these people live, so I dont know where to start. Some of the names are common, too. Do tell me if I have misunderstood you, though.

I'm following up other leads at the moment (have possibly found one of them via google). I will come back and report on progress asap.

Hi twiglett supersleuth extrodinaire - I got it! Many thanks. I'll be emailing E today and phoning D on Tuesday (tried to do this yesterday afternoon, but no one at the agency was picking up the phone).

Will let you know how I get on - thanks to you and your contacts it looks like I'll find at least a few of of my ex college mates.
