Recently someone went into the back of our car-totally their fault which the insurance agreed on.Car went into garage and all was going well with a hire car or so we thought. Now the garage have said our car is a write off and the insurance won't pay for the repairs. All I want is our car back fixed. They have offered us 900 pounds and our car back.We have only just finished paying for our car.Nothing is our fault and I'm wondering what we can do.It's all so unfair!

£900 - I take it they say that is what you're car is worth?

You can't force them to repair it if it is 'beyond economic repair'.

The trouble is, they will insist on quotes from specific garages. If you know anyone who does car repairs (especially cash-in-hand so cheaper) it may be worth taking the cash and the car and arranging your own repairs.

We were quoted £750 for repairs after a smash, the car was an old banger and the insurance company wrote it off, paying us £600. We had to 'buy back' the car for £50 but dh then did the repairs for less than £300,so we ended up making money - still drive a wreck of an old banger tho!

Oh - and if you are lucky enough to have a full service history for the car, or recent photos of it looking smart it might be worth mentioning them to the insurance company. We were originally only offered £500 but had it bumped up to £600 when we proved it might have been a banger, but a very good condition one

Yes salt, unfortunately, but 3 years ago we paid 3,000 for it.They say the repairs will cost 1,400.
Snugs, that's what we're hoping that we can get it repaired for 900 or less, then it won't be too bad.

We did the same as Snugs, but to get the car insured again the insurance company insisted on having before, during and after photo's of the work done. Keep pestering the insurance company, did the car go to the insurance company's recommended garage, if so they are only allowed (apparently) to use brand new parts. Get another quote from your own garage, asking them to use second hand parts.
