do your kids buy each other presents?

I have to confess that it feels like too much effort to do seperate trips to the shops with each one while they choose something. I have no memory of when I started buying/choosing stuff for my brothers but I do remember it being one of the most exciting things about Christmas. Mine are 5 and 3 so have convinced myself it's ok to leave it another year. am I rotten?

If you have time then it is a nice idea to take each child out separately to buy a gift for sibling/mum/dad/whoever. (In fact they usually prove to have such terrible ideas you wish you hadn't bothered )

I sign in a book from one to the other and vice versa. They've always 'given' each other books. I also dedicate 2 of the presents I've bought dh to come from them (usually a cd each). When I can trust ds not to blab I will let him participate in the choosing of said gift.

cupcakes - excellent idea - I have a couple of books in my stash - I can dig them out and tell them I bought them for them to give. Maybe next year they can do some choosing. we did have fun choosing a tie for dh though. suprise suprise they liked the cheap and gaudy ones but I think the final "choice" is acceptable. blumin well hope so took us two trips at half an hour each to get there. Tie ffs how original am I. it'll be novelty socks and handkerchiefs next year. It wasn't meant to be like this.

I like doing the dedications in books because it's a lasting reminder of them being little and sweet. It's always nice opening up a book and saying 'this is what dd gave you for Christmas when she was one' .
