.......proper running gear for dh preferably online. I think he would like some kind of top which will keep him warm enough to go running on cold days, and as there's nothing on earth which could ever possibly interest me in freezing my nose off going for a jog in this weather (or any weather for that matter), I don't know where to start or what to buy. I did look in some sports shops, but they don't seem to do proper gear designed for running. He's the type who'll happily run a marathon rather than a quick jog round the park. Please point me in the right direction........TIA

Am not a runner, but know they do loads of 'proper' running stuff in nike (have been to nike town at oxford circus). don't know if they have a website, but you could try www.sweatshop.co.uk/

Thanks popmum. Will have a look.
Can anyone advise me what I should buy?

At 34 weeks pregnant - I'm not doing much running (O.K. read this as sitting on my bum) but I have been known to run a marathon and half marathons in my pre-child days.

Have a look in 'Runners World" magazine in the local newsagent or I assume they must have a website. One company that is good is Bourne Sports - they do nationwide delivery and I think are mail-order so don't have a shop.

I would recommend Ron Hill stuff etc. Any good sport shop will have some runners stuff. HTH

Excellent hmwm - I've seen Ron Hill stuff, but didn't know if it would be ok. I got him a subscription to Runner's World last year - duh - should have looked there - shows my great interest in dh's sporty side - lol. He's bound to have a few left lying around. Will look tomorrow while he's at work. Thanks.

Guess you should put your feet up if you can find a moment in these last few weeks........

Aero - Bourne Sports will probably have an ad in Runners World. They do have a shop, it's in Stoke a few miles from me, but the mail order service is excellent apparently.

anchovies · 14/12/2005 08:25

dh gets some random stuff from here but uses this one more for bargains.

leogaela · 14/12/2005 13:02

runners world has loads of adverts for online shops, and a lot of the stuff is discounted (sorry cant give you websites).
Any ron hill stuff you get for him should go down very well though and you know you are buying stuff specifically designed for running.

mummydear · 14/12/2005 14:02

There is a runners thread on Mumsnet for your info..

Shops, as someone said runnersworld website is good to point you in right direction, also look in the back of the runners world magazine for lots of websites.

Sweatshop have a website aswell as shops.

Your run of the mill high street 'sports shops' are basically crap for anything decent.

If he is into running why not get him a sports massage for christmas ?

MistletAero · 14/12/2005 18:28

Thanks everyone. Have ordered him a verrrrry bright wind/water proof top and some Ron Hill running tights from Bourne Sports, so he'll be well pleased and I can rest assured he'll definitely be seen running at night!

mummydear - that's a great idea. It's his birthday just after Xmas and he'd definitely love that. Would any sports/leisure centre do them?

MA - You can try your local leisure centre, obviuolsy it depends what facilities they have.

If you have any private sports/health clubs near you they may do them and you may not necessarily have to be a member .

Have a search on the internet and you may find some.

Hope you find something. have a lovely Christmas.
