cant you just get another car for yourself as the value of the other car would be very much depreciated after 7 yrs

Don't think you can expect him to give you 6K when you have driven the car for the first 6 years.

You aren't going to get your 6k back . The car will have significantly depreciated over 7 years. Can he or you afford to buy another car ? If you are splitting up then think it would be treated as an asset like any other. Are you getting legal advice?

Oh yes so you need to work out a way to fund a second car. I don't think your 7yo car is likely to be worth all that much. Although if it is a big car you could sell it and buy two smaller ones to save on running costs.
