Bollocks. That's all.

I have just been to the supermarket and had my card declined. One week after payday. I have come home and rang the bank and some bastard has used my card online to the tune of almost 2.5K Shock

I was furious at my bank for allowing this to happen - surely it looked suspicious to them that it was being used abroad and in the UK at the same time.

I am even more furious at the bastard who has helped themselves to my money. I am now absolutely skint for the rest of the month. They did leave me with £19 to live on.....how fucking kind of them.

How embarassing having to walk out of Tesco's without any shopping. Aaaaarggggghhhh. I have been ill recently and wasn't feeling too great today and this just finished me off. I burst into tears at the checkout mumbling to the lady that I had no idea what was wrong and I would call the bank to sort it and come back in and pay. I didn't go back in because I couldn't pay.

Luckily most of my bills have been paid for the month but I've got nothing left at all. No petrol money, no food money and nothing to live on. Sods law too that 3 months ago I cut up my credit card so don't even have one to use.

My bank won't give me an overdraft even though they know that it is obvious what has happened. I have to wait for them to investigate and they will refund the money but it could take 'up to six weeks'.

So......I have 4 potatoes, a chicken, 2 apples and half a pint of milk for the month. Has anyone got any miracle way of making that spread for 25 days?! Grin

Feel free to ignore, I am so bloody angry and just having a rant. I am terrified now of this month and how on earth I am going to manage.

I am ill, my mum is ill and I have been looking after her this month after she was admitted to hospital, she is 300 miles away, I am about to lose my job. Can anything else go wrong for me?

Did I mention that I was pissed off? Angry

Santander have been nothing but shit with me too - I'd love to know which banks you all recommend.

My (new, untouched by me) card was once stolen and used to the max while it was being transferred between branches! Another time it was cloned (or my details used, at least), and the branch didn't want to do anything about it because I had no other ID on me - I had to insist that I didn't own a passport or driving license before she reluctantly went ahead with the procedure for cancelling it and reimbursing me. THEN, I had a letter from a deliver company, confirming the separate address they'd be delivering items that I'd apparently ordered. I phoned Santander's fraud unit... who weren't the slightest bit interested.

I hope you get your money back soon - from my recollection it didn't actually take long. If you do stay with Santander, I'd recommend keeping a couple of hundred pounds in a separate savings account with instant access, just in case. (I know, barn door, horse bolted, etc...)

AnneWiddecomesArse · 04/08/2011 00:13

Pls send me a message. I will require your name, account number, sort code, date of birth and the telephone number of the branch /contact number.
This is a ludicrous request, and you should never normally give these details.
I am an Accountant in practice and have dealt with identity theft with Santander twice last year on behalf of clients.
In return, I will send (if I consider you genuine); a short Letter of Instruction (no charge) on my company letterhead (post only).
I kick arse. I generally kick arse with tax office etc. I have a reputation for doing so. I think I have unresolved anger issues.
It's an offer.

Oh, another thing. Don't ever be tempted to download Santander's anti-online fraud Rapport thingy. It buggers up any other anti-virus software you have.

AnneWiddecomesArse · 04/08/2011 00:42

I won't. I will only act if I get a signed Letter of Instruction back in the post with original signature. It's a risk that I'm willing to take.
Having received my LOI the op will google me, my company; and see that I've been in practice for 26 years (27) in October.
Before I issue the LOI I will do basic money laundering/identity checks.

Bogeyface · 04/08/2011 00:50

And she should just send you her details hoping that you will not rip her off and deem her genuine......why?!

Seriously..why?!

Are you honestly expecting anyone to fall for that?

AnneWiddecomesArse · 04/08/2011 00:59

The account is blocked. She can't access it. There's no money to be had.

If she can't access her own money; how the hell would I?

It was a genuine offer Bogeyface. I'm sure also that MNHQ could locate me on my details

HairExtensions · 04/08/2011 01:33

You can get a Crisis Loan from the Social Fund. It's interest free but they will likely expect you to pay back the full amount when you next get paid. I think you can only spread the payments if you are on benefits.

HairExtensions · 04/08/2011 01:41

Oh I see Colditz posted the same re Crisis Loans. She is right, you don't need to be on benefits or a low income. The call can take about an hour and they give you the decision at the end of the call.

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 04/08/2011 04:35

I've not worked for that bank but another one and what used to scare the shit out of them was chief ex complaints. It is worth calling head office and asking to raise a complaint this way. I think they also got reported differently and used to have everyone running around to fix it. Would even stop the call centres from getting bonuses!

dutchyoriginal · 10/08/2011 10:49

Hi OP, did anything get resolved? How are you coping?

RichTeaAreCrap · 19/08/2011 14:10

Just to update you all, I have managed thankfully this month. I managed to borrow a bit of money from my brother that I have made sure lasts me. I haven't had my money back yet but I have opened another account elsewhere. I have also arranged for my salary to be paid into the new account. I have only kept the Santander account so they can pay the money back into it. I'll withdraw the lot and then close my account.

It's been a tough month and am not sure how I have managed, but its payday in 6 days (phew). It does show how much, or should I say how little you can live on if you need to. I waste money a lot of money, this has just highlighted that. So, some good has come of it all as I intend to change that Grin

Thanks for all your help and advise. Thank you for your offer AnnSorry, but I really don't want to PM anyone my bank account number and personal details etc. The account is still active. Hopefully you understand.

AnnSorry - should be "Ann, sorry".

Really please to hear you are ok. Any top tips you fancy sharing? Grin

RichTeaAreCrap · 19/08/2011 18:35

Yes, stay in and have a bloody miserable month Grin

On a serious note, I have walked instead of using the car wherever I could, bought shop brand basics, cooked in bulk and frozen, not bought any take away coffee (my weakness), and just generally thought about everything before buying it.

Bogeyface · 19/08/2011 19:02

And of course the best bit is that when you get your money back, after paying your DB back you will have a nice little sum to put away for emergencies :)

I am so glad you got through ok, and as you say, some good has come of it.

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 19/08/2011 20:01

And of course the caffeine headache you're gonna get when you knock back that 1st one after you get paid Grin

Bogeyface · 19/08/2011 20:44

ooh yeah, that will whack you sideways! Better go easy on the espresso for a while :o

mycatsaysach · 19/08/2011 20:52
