HI all.....hoping that you can help me quick! I've got a gorgeous velvet dress that is a bit on the large size so I had a mad idea of taking it in last night. I did one side and wasn't happy with the results as it was slightly puckered, so unpicked it all....only to find the velvet has been squashed by the stitches and you can see where I've sewn. I've taken it to the dry cleaners who have said that it will make no difference . Thing is I need to wear the thing tonight !! I know, I know...

Anyone any ideas that may help? My only other plan is to take it to an other express sewing place and get them to alter it (long shot), but would prefer to wear it big IYKWIM!

An ice cube in the crushed pile generally perks it back up.

Does it? I love you and am looking in my freezer (back garden) as I speak!

it has worked for me in the past. Please don't shout at me if it doesn't work for you !

NomDePlume · 30/11/2005 12:01

i think you are supposed to sit it on the pile. I'll have a google.

Just found a tip for perking the pile on google - Hold the item over a steaming saucepan or kettle for a few minutes.

Shout? ..... me?! It's my only hope no worries!

Didn't think it was my piles that needed perking! Will have a go - thanks very much for your help - will let you know how it goes!

I hope one of them works.

dare I say....it seems to have worked. As the pile is drying it looks much perkier!
Many thanks 'o wise one'. Me thinks you have magical google finger as it was me you helped before with children's cutlery too! [bow emoticon needed!]
Thanks again!
