Hi, sorry if this sounds a bit thick... but we have just got a burn from a log falling out onto the lounge carpet. We are not going to replace it will a particularly good quality carpet at this stage.... However, should I claim on house insurance and in your experiences would this be counter productive in the sense of the preimums going up too much because of the claim. ANY ADVICE????!

We claimed after spilling Lilly pollen. The difference in our premiums was a lot less than the cost of the new carpet, about £4-500 difference from memory.

I dont think it adds to much if anything to the policy particularly if you havent claimed before and probably if you have been with the insurance company a while. We had our carpet replaced in the front room when someone's nots to DS kicked a cup of black coffee over. The room is an open plan double reception (25ft approx). They replaced the whole lot and I dont remember the premiums going up significantly. That was Direct Line.
