My Grandma is 87 and lives near my parents. My mum is her main carer, but lately my Gran has become really difficult and we have had to hire nurses to help her get up in the morning and go to bed at night. She started gettig very vaugue and sectretive as well as the huge confusion she suffers. She frequently things I am someone else and that my DD is me.

The Dr spoke to my mum yesterday and said its really time she went to live in a home. I'm so scared about this as I've heard so many stories. Shes not very sociable, not good at making freinds and she has no interests what so ever so I'm worried she will just sink in to a quasi existence there.

Does anyone have any good advice or experience in choosing the right place. We have less to choose from as she needs to go to one which can deal with very confused people.

Emma. Relly sorry to hear this. This happenned a few years ago to dh's much loved Gran too. It is somthing nobody wanted to see happen, but like your Gran she wasn't safe left alone and it really was for the best. IMO talking about it to her in advance only seemed to get her more anxious/confused, but don't know if springing it on her would have helped either.

We visited 4 homes in the area, and basically went with a gut feeling as to which felt the nicest. It was a difficult time for everyone, she was very confused too. This is not much help I know, but just wanted to say I know how hard it is and I wish you and your Gran all the best.

xx
