PARTY NOVICE. I FEEL A LITTLE PEEVED. AM I EXPECTNG TOO MUCH?

Ok DS had a party today. Following on from advise here we booked a party at the local leisure centre. DS has 101 allergies so had to bake loads. Anyway 6 out of 14 didn't show. Two turned up late so may as well not have bothered. Of the 6 that didn't turn up 2 had said they were coming.

I sent the invites out about 2 weeks ago and think this is loads of time to reply. I tried chasing them up but don;t know the parents and only managed to talk to the kids who of course thought they were coming.

Is this normal? Thing that really pisses me off is the amount of baking I did. How do I avoid this happening again? Just invite those I know will turn up. Thanks for listening.

That's awful, I know a lot of effort goes into parties and can imagine how disappointed you were. What horrible people!

I've been quite lucky and all the kids who have replied have turned up to our parties (but we do live in a very small community).

Did your DS have a good time though? That's the main thing.

Do you know any other mums? Has this happened to them? If so, next time I would just take half a dozen somewhere nice.

No it really is annoying, it gets to me too

You went to so much trouble too

Next time, just tell your DS to chose 4 really good friends and take them out instead, that is what we are going to do.

very disappointing

2 weeks is quite short but even so they should have replied

I always chase people in the playground or by phone if they havent replied

did ds have a good time? just enjoy eating all the extras over the next few days.

dd's party last month invited 24, 12 rspvd to say they were coming, 10 turned up. Great time was had by all, didn't really matter who was there at all

I think you are right. Trouble is with his allergies we are really restricted and DP has said he will never have a party at home again after last year. AAAGH.

Why can't people just return the slip? I should have assumed that those who hadn't replied weren't coming. Thanks for thinking they are out of order.

DS did enjoy it. He is really good like that. It's just me and DP who are peeved. You start to think 'Is it us?'

We thought that when the same happened to us, we were also thinking "don't they like our DD" which was far more upsetting.

I guess its just one of those things and at this time of year kids come down with all sorts of bugs so that could be why one or two of them didn't come.
