i have qualifications in basic cut and colour could i help?

Nbg · 11/11/2005 15:30

You might!

Basically I'm thinking of cutting my hair short again but there are a few things that bug me about it.

Pro's...
Less hassle (i.e. less hair to straighten so less time)
Could look good, if it's done right!
I've gone a darker colour now so a bob type cut might look better than when my hair was lighter.

Cons...
I always moan when I cut it short because I want it long again.
I've just grown it long again so it's well past shoulder length now.
My hair is very thick and is naturally wavy so it always needs straightning.

I don't know what to do. I always have these big plans in my head but when I end up going to the hairdressers I never get to have a good chat with them and explain what I want.

my hair sounds very similar to yours although now its just below my shoulders. I have thick hair and lots of it and it used to take me about an hour to straighten it i was all ready to go for the chop even though every time i decide to go short i always regret it. Instead of going to a salon i called a mobile hairdresser (a work colleague) wand we came to the decision that instead of having the whole lot cut off why not put layers through it? when the layers were put in and my hair dried it was then razored (not as as it sounds) hey presto i had gorgeous thin hair that was easy to straighten but i also managed to keep the length. I have had my hair like this now for about six months and the only thing i have had different was a little bit of colour just to highlight the layers. HTH and good luck

polly28 · 11/11/2005 15:59

carly you're a hairdresses then..how useful,lol

Nbg · 11/11/2005 16:06

That does help, thanks.

I have had it razored before. One hairdresser didn't recommend it and another one just went for it and I never had any problems.

The other thing which I forgot to mention is that I have quite a long and thin face and on my works ID badge, my photo is of me with short, lighter hair. People who see it always say my hair looks better now than it does on the piccie but the colour could make a big difference, couldn't it?

Sometimes it can look really nice this length but other times it just gets on my nerves!

only head hair im afraid lol

Don't you be taling about bum hair on my thread

well to be honest nbg a bob would probably suit you because they dont tend to suit people with rounder faces. Why not go for a slightly longer bob that way you can do it in stages rather than the lot off in one go and i agree that a dark brown bob tends to look nice and sleek, yu see i made the mistake of having one when i had white blonde hair and it didnt look good on me at all and i hated it.

carly82 · 11/11/2005 16:11

nbg sorry no more talking of bum hair i promise

Nbg · 11/11/2005 16:14

It's a good thread for a laugh though!

You think the colour would make a difference then? Thats made me feel a bit better.

I'll still have to straighten it every day but at least it won't take as long.

Did you watch Parkinson last Saturday, well Charlotte Church was on and I really liked her new "do". Very nice.

Like you said I don't have to go short straight away do I.

I had the same problem as you the other day, And end the end i toke the plunge and had all my hair cut of, i have thick hair, its not wavy but gets quite frizzy so i also straighten it every day, and it was starting to take forever and i just dont have the time or energy anymore, so i decided i was going to get it chopped into a bob all razored/layered round the front. I have done this and my hair was half way down my back, it was the best thing i have done in a long long time and everyone has said how much better my hair is looking and how they love it.

It does help to have a good hair dresser who will give you a good cut, mine is fab. The way i see it is it's hair and it grows so why not have a change once in a while, i want to keep mine this length now its soo much easier than before & looks much more stylish.

I say go for it, i think its sounds good.

carly82 · 11/11/2005 16:18

i love charlottes hair but she has quite a round face and it looks better the more it grows out. Like i said b4 my hair was layered and razored it used to take me about an hour to straighten now i never take more than twenty mins. I just think that dark hair always looks much more healthy although there is nothing wrong with adding a little colour to break it up.

Nbg · 11/11/2005 16:21

Oh thanks M2OAB!

Feel a bit more confident about it now.

I think the only thing that is stopping me from cutting it is that sometimes I curl it (a'la Victoria Beckham) and I love it like that but again, takes a lifetime to do.

My SIL went to a really good salon last week and was given a voucher for a friend to get a cut 1/2 price so I might go there.
