My mom and sister were held at knifepoint!

They both work in the same office and i cant believe what happened today.

My mom was working in her office when she hears my sister shout 'we are being robbed' My sister comes running into the office follewed by a young lad who also worked there. There were a few others in the office too. The bloke and my sister were being chased by 4 men with baseball bats.

The 2 males in the office stood against the door to hold it shut. The office is in a factory and the foor walls are made of glass. The gang start to smash up the glass with the baseball bats.

The had 9 inch knives with them too.

My mom told my sister to get under a desk and she got under another one, there was smashed glass going everywhere and lots of shouting. Someone tried to call the police on the landline and couldnt get though. My sister got through on her mobile.

The gang was demanding the car keys of the bosses car (the bosses, both of them, had run off) The police took 20 mins to turn up, my mom and sister and the others were held at knife point until the car keys were found and they drove off before the police arrived.

I am shaken by it - i cant imagen how my mom and sister must feel. Imagen thinking that your child is going to get stabbed, even though my sister is 20 she is still my moms daughter. Imagen thinking that you would never turn up to pick your 5 yr old up from school. Its horrible.

I could have lost half my family today. Why do people do things like this? over a car!! the police think it was maybe a personal grudge against the bosses and armed robbery and assult for a car seems unlikely.

One poor young man broke down later saying he just wanted to go home and hold his children

It makes me so sad to think that there are people out there who can care so little for the lives of others. It could easily have been so much worse today. It doesnt bear thinking about.

Thats terrible that the bosses ran off

I think all of them deserve an apology from them

Sorry to hear they have had such a dreadful day

HuggyBear · 09/11/2005 18:11

Not only did the bosses run off but one of them pushed two young girls out the way to get out of the door!

the other boss jumped out of a window.

I think it was probably a first instinct to run though.

I dont know why im so shaky i wasnt even there

Suonds like a grudge turf war type thing.

How shocking for your Mum and Sis.

skinnycow · 10/11/2005 13:27

gosh huggy thats terrible! are they local?

Fimbo · 10/11/2005 13:27

OMG how shocking for your mum and sister. Did this happen in Britain?

HuggyBear · 10/11/2005 13:28

Yup in Tyseley (birmingham)

They gave statements to the police and my sister said she thought she might have recognised one as a temp who was sacked a few weeks ago...

LadySherlockofLGJ · 10/11/2005 13:29

What type of business is it ??

Should think the bosses will struggle to regain authority and respect. TBH

Fimbo · 10/11/2005 13:31

Ok, you might be a bit miffed at being sacked but to do something like this - what a crazy, mad, shocking place we live in. Hope your mum and sister are ok.

HuggyBear · 10/11/2005 13:31

I think they send out mailings for other companys (like the junk mail you get through your letterbox) the people in the factory bag them up and put them in enverlopes and in the office where my mom and sister work they do data processing or something like that. Luckily the factory people managed to run out of the doors, it was just the 5 or 6 people in the office that were trapped.

at the police taking 20mins to turn up too

Huggy I'm not surprised you are shaken too. Look how many of us have posted and we are far more removed from the event.

saadia · 10/11/2005 14:43

How utterly horrible, you and you mum and sister must still be in shock but in time it might be worth looking into trauma counselling. Just glad they are OK.

Caligula · 10/11/2005 14:45

Jesus what heroes.

Glad they're all OK Huggy.

piffle · 10/11/2005 15:08

huggy how awful and terrifying - big hugs
I well remember when the bank I worked in, in NZ get robbed, I was on the business tills and managed to lock the til down and hide, they thought I was at lunch, but they shot a bullet through the roof to the canteen, was awful, about 5 of us left after that.
It is really hard thing to get over, hope their work sorts out counselling too.

moondog · 10/11/2005 15:15

HB,what a terrible scary thing.
You must be feeling so freaked out.

But they're safe ok??? They're fine.

Bastards-I want people like this to suffer.

HuggyBear · 10/11/2005 15:17

I dont know what my poor sister must be thinking. She left her old job as it got done over twice - it was an out door and now its happened here! She is a very together sort of person and was the one that stayed calm through it all. Im very proud of her.
